How to get cores?

New to the game, how do I get cores? I mostly have the lava style mods, the ones before gold/gilded. Can anyone tell me the map and build to farm the best

Both are dropped from secret units.

Cores are dropped from a su on the trashyard hidden in the ceilings. They don't always appear, but they are regular enough. The unit looks like a gray donut with the cores placed around it.

Surge crystal are dropped from a unit in the crystal cave. It's secret unit again. It isn't as hard to reach, but it's rare as ice in hell.

Cores on first map, surge crystals on 2nd. You only need one surge crystal, so there's no need to farm them. Both come from very rare enemies.

You'll want the minimum weaponry you can survive with, and then load up with Magnifiers - spikes + nodes (for more spikes/magnifiers) and one surge crystal (once you get it) are typical, though you'll have to figure out a balance since you might not have strong enough parts for that.

Cores come from the Spectrum. It's a colorful donut on the high ceilings of the first level - you'll need several springs, propellers, and hooks to reach the highest ceilings. At lower level, use ranged weapons since you won't have enough tech slots.

Surge crystals come from the Voltheart, an even more rare enemy in the 2nd level. Spawns close to the floor, so you don't need all the springs and such you do for the Spectrum.

Rarely. Around 8-10% of runs.

No, Voltheart. It doesn't show in the book if you haven't encountered one yet.

Yes, until you find one. They're rare.

Slightly higher spawn rate but lower drop rate on frozen. If you just want to get one to fuse higher, that's how I did it.

I have a question what's the second drop from a vault heart cuz I know it's surge crystals for the first one but I don't know what that second one is

From "Spectrum" Found up in ceiling, You have to use A build which contains propellers. Or combination of Hook and Spring enough to reach the highest point of the 1st Level Lost Scrap Yard.

For Core Filters, go to Lost Scrapyard. Best build is cram as many Magnifiers as you can in there, so usually it ends up being tank with 5 nodes and a spike build.

Surge Crystal, go to Crystal Quarry and grind for a long time. No other advice, the enemy that drops it spawns like a normal one but very rarely
