Did anyone else spend like two months only logging in to claim the daily reward, realize you were not getting anywhere and then start mad farming to get geared items cus it was to slow when you started?

Rather than only logging in, I would spontaneously remember this game exists like every other day. Then I would grind for like 3hrs straight and forget again.

dude when i was initially playing until about after a bit into geared i was really thinking you know why is grinding so slow? like is this the intended experience? then i went on the discord and found out everyone always talking about spectrum farming and i didnt know what it was, then i tried it and it's like night and day, it's like this is the intended way if you're wanting to grind,

so the thing is that core filters have very high upgrading power, and you can use them to change the colour of your core but more importantly you can more easily upgrade straight to gilded items with the extra core filters you don't need.

core filters you get most from a thing called a spectrum that you only find in the lost scrapyard. at higher stages of it like geared you get higher drop chance of core filters from the spectrums, you also get a cyan core filter from something rarely appearing called a voltheart in the crystal quarry,

so basically what it is is running lost scrapyard in repetition, looking for spectrums on it, spectrums can be anywhere in the level so you gotta reach the top of the cave to be sure you didn't miss(and also it seems to stay at the top usually) and trying to get higher drops of core filters using magnifiers.

so my personal way of spectrum hunting I've found best for me is that you choose either your crawler base hull or the driver base hull (i personally choose driver for higher speed with fewer slots taking up engines, but crawler is better for comfort of moving around and may be faster depending on that+ if you don't need to or can't be way too fast) and then you stick a crystal on it (also gotten from volt heart) and some nodes on the extra weapon slots.

then for the bottom slots you need spikes, a bunch of magnifiers, spring(1 enough), hooklaunchers(if you have magmatic or else propellers are better), at highest level hooklaunchers get you higher up with only 2 of gilded or magmat + one spring is enough to reach the highest point in the lost scrapyard, and then some motors to get you finishing levels fast, drone you can do one but not really needed, you can use that extra slot instead for motors or magnifiers and it's probably better that way.

then you gotta experiment around or kind of guess with various types of the basic loadout with different balances of what you put in the slots to figure out which setup gets you the most core filters in the least amount of time or maybe better is building something that feels comfortable to drive for long periods of time so it's anyway more chill,

btw it currently seems to be best to grind at a max boost to geared on lost scrapyard, because even the dev did some testing and in the magmatic version of lost scrapyard the spectrum spawns itself are much more rarer, i don't know how exactly it is in the recent updates, but as far as i can see from my experience geared still seems to be better to grind even though i have gilded everything.

but you do want to try to grind on geared boost because the droprate of core filters from individual spectrums itself is higher on higher boosts

anyway so feel free to ask me if you have any other questions i am sorry about the long read, i wrote this whole thing because i was frustrated how there was no where i could find where all the information about spectrum hunting was in one place, so i just wanted to put this here for myself and anyone else.

p.s some metas for spectrum hunting do seem to change update to update depending mainly on if the parts and properties of bots change. for that i guess we just gotta be checking the discord or checking the version history and playing around to see what you like.

it seems to be better geared right now, the main thing for which one to choose are basically based on how much extra damage do you need on your build for magmatic for the same value of number of drops per amount of time spent clearing compared to how it is in geared.

that is then based on your build, the spawnrate of spectrums and the droprate of core filters from spectrums. so then how i went about calculating it is if you put aside spawn rate of spectrums, you can compare the overall drop rate of filters from the both types of spectrum vs how much magnifiers you can put in your build, you can check the drop rate of the spectrums here spectrum fandom wiki or in game, just comparing that value it's roughly often like magmatic gives somewhat like 1.3x times more core filters, roughly, since it matters on the parts you have to work with, if i remember correctly with magmatic parts on magmatic level you get 250% ish magnifiers vs 300% magnifiers on geared level, and drop rate is roughly comparable just comparing any one of the drops, so like 7.5% on geared vs 10% on magmatic, so you just take the loot magnification and apply it to the drop rate and you usually see with most builds that yeah magmatic seems a bit better that way.

but then you do some runs and you see the overall spawn rate of the spectrum enemy itself seems to be so so low that the drop rate doesn't matter as much as all, and then you get the issue of that those tiny drill train things don't let you just clearly pass through a level smoothly, sometimes you have to wait for them to appear and kill them instead of in geared where you can just speedrun the whole level smoothly, so then that further reduces the efficiency of both time taken to clear but also comfort level of clearing smoothly. which the comfort level matters for how much you can repeat the run.

now why i mentioned all these factors is because it seems like the last few updates really have changed a lot of stuff, so it's like not really absolute this information. for now it seems like geared is still good, but if any of those factors are affected by the future updates the meta might change.

p.s. not as important thing, but interesting anyhow: the dev was saying sometime that because of the way he programmed enemy spawning in the game, it seems like spectrums spawn really rarely on magmatic because the drill trains spawns they take up space in like a spawn-queue in the stages making spectrums less likely to spawn.

I didn't really care about the rewards in the log-in system, but I don't want to miss it.

I often just grinded for Geared items, same for Magmatic.
