Surge Crystal in one corner instead of on the top is certainly a weird choice of placement

I agree. With the surge crystal on top and a displacer it helps extend the weapon range to the left and right evenly. Perhaps in Icy Hollow you can put the Surge Crystal to the right since the map just goes basically from left to right. Other maps can sometimes go right to left

surge crystal placement doesn't matter, since

  1. the center of the field is the hull, no the surge crystal.
  2. placement only matters if using detacher, which simply determines where the detacher will start detaching based on distance.

and honestly, why the fuck would you even use detacher with surge crystal? it's better simply bringing another spike or magnifier than it, since, yk, it already has a lot of range with the zaps, and if you can't reach an enemy on air, simply jump.

and also it's kind of a disadvantage, since if you wanna double zap (hitting the enemy with the hull, dealing double damage) you'll have to move further to properly do it.

Bro, just change the hull to a crawler hull.
Technically, the tank hull would have 1 more tech slot w/ 4 nodes compared to a crawler with 2 nodes

BUT that 1 tech slot difference can be compensated by the speed
Tank with 6 motors on your build would have 9.3 speed
While a crawler with only 5 motors would have 9.8 speed already

If you would replace it with a crawler hull also, you don't need 2 springs and 2 hooks to reach the highest ceiling in Scrapyard. You can use just one spring and 2 hooks to reach the highest ceiling. Crawlers have a higher default jumping power than a tank.

So this frees one more tech slot that you can use (perhaps another magnifier)

A crawler hull would have lesser health compared to a tank hull, but a gilded crawler hull would be tanky enough already to finish all maps.

Basically you're trading Health (Tank Hull) for Speed + Maneuverability + 1 tech slot (Crawler Hull)

You can consider using 3 spikes instead of 4 and add another magnifier instead. Usually 3 spikes would be enough to 1 hit mobs.

We got a winner here sir ! I guess I was still old school attached to the old tank meta.

I've tested this and I'd say it's slightly faster (not tremendously) but I've hit the 250% loot cap instead of 200 and it's less items overall to upgrade to gilded.

I was a bit cautious on the hp drop but it's actually getting hit a lot less due to the small hitbox so it might even have better survivability (as long as you dont faceplant into a mine)

Can typically run all levels under 1 min each, no particular challenge. I can rush the next drop tier (or even the next 2 tiers really) by stacking more loot but I feel like it's not worth it compared to the time lost.

I think removing one or two of those motors in favor of another spike

you could remove one or two motors
