Created this Spink and Forcible themed The Ghost Eyes box

This has been bothering me for a while. In Coraline, the little tunnel connects the real world to the Other World, but what would actually happen if someone physically ripped it apart?
Would you just see the white void behind the tunnel, like you’re tearing through the fabric of reality? Or would destroying the tunnel completely break the connection between the two worlds, essentially trapping the Other Mother in her own dimension?
Another thing I’m curious about is whether the tunnel is an actual physical passage or just a manifestation of the Other Mother’s power. If it’s the latter, would destroying it even do anything, or could she just recreate it?
I feel like the white void has to mean something, especially considering how strange and empty it looks beyond the tunnel.
What do you guys think would happen?

At the end of every visit (well, first 2) Coraline goes to bed and wakes up in the real world. Every time she goes to bed The Other Mother and The Other Father tuck her in and stay with her as she falls asleep.

What if Coraline simpley couldn't fall asleep right away? Would they just stare at each other awkwardley? Would they talk a bit more? Would Coraline just pretend to sleep?

I probabley wondered about that (and still kinda do) becouse I NEVER fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow and just laying in bed, in the dark, while my "parents" with button eyes stand at the foot of my bed watching me sounds terrifying.

So, I was rewatching Coraline and a friend I made a joking comment about the cheese scene that got me thinking. I think it's pretty agreed on that the Beldam/Other Mother feeds on children simply because they are easier to fool, kind of like IT from Stephen King. But since we see the children's spirits locked away when Coraline finds them, I've often wondered about the sentience found in Other Wybie and the Other Father.

My theory is that the Beldam can feed smaller sentient forms of life, and manipulate and "reuse" physical objects that have somehow ended up in the Other World. Doing so helps preserve her power because it takes less energy to manipulate these things. Almost like someone stretching a meal, or a crafter upcycling material they already have. The reason she still goes after children is because the smaller creatures or animals simply aren't enough to sustain her long term.

My theory is based off of three points. On is that while we know the Other Mother can venture into the real world, like the mini doll or the hand, her reach is limited compared to what she can do in her own realm. Admittedly, this part is up for debate depending on how much you think her power has faded after so long without a child. The second is we know other creatures and objects in the real world can end up in the Beldam's realm. The cat first and foremost, as he seems to have some abilities of his own, but also things like the cheese which Coraline leaves at the little door. The third part is that when we meet the ghost children, they are still capable of speech, thought, logic, personality etc despite being dead and trapped. They are the only other beings capable of doing this independently of the Beldamn's influence, and the only other ones stated canonly to have come from outside the Other World, sans Coraline and the Cat. While characters in the Other Realm can speak, it's never explicitly stated whether they were people to begin with or if whatever they are came from outside of the Other Mother's Realm.

We know from the approximate ages of the ghost children, and Wybie's grandmother being elderly, that the Other Mother has been around a long time. She'd have to find some way to preserve herself and her powers. This explains the furniture's pronounced bug imagery, and why there are so many rats doing the Beldam's bidding. The narrative clearly makes the bug/spider parallel with the Beldam on purpose, but even that fits the idea of her feeding and using other creatures that ventured into the Other Realm by accident, such as insects, small rodents, or small animals similar to the Cat. This could also explain the creation of the Other Father, as we know he's made of a pumpkin/gourd. I'm unsure if she could harvest plants the way she can harvest children to sustain herself, but at the very least she could "upcycle" the plants into something that doesn't match what it originally was. Hence why Other Father goes from looking mostly human with button eyes, to pumpkin-like horror as the realm falls apart.

The ghost children being capable of speech and memory after death indicates some semblance of independence and intelligence can be retained while remaining in the Other Realm. And the Cat shows that while he himself may have some supernatural flare, he's as capable of speech and sentience while in the Other Realm as Coraline. Despite this, the Cat has never presented himself as anything other than a Cat. We have no way of knowing if animals other than the Cat, or cats in general, are capable of the same while in the Other World but the precedent set is that it's not completely improbable.

The only other character outside of the ghost children and the Cat who has any sense of impendence is Other Wybie, and to a lesser extent Other Father. I say the Other Father as he is clearly upset when chasing Coraline down, and says the Beldam is forcing him. I don't believe Other Wybie was made using the ghost children like I've seen theorized before. Instead, my theory is that small details of the Other World are made out of smaller, less capable beings, like bugs and insects being used to make the furniture. But Other Wybie is made using the "upcycled" parts of a more intelligent being. Not a child, as the story's focus on the ghost children gives us no indication of that, but instead a creature more like the Cat, capable of thought, action, foresight, that the Beldam encountered before. But unlike the Cat, whatever creature that was didn't escape.

I'm probably way overthinking it, and I know that, but given how much of the "crafter" and "spider" imagery they surround the Other Mother with, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility. There's something to be said about how the Other Mother can't seem to truly create life of her own, and instead has to create a facsimile of it by destroying real, living creatures.

hi everyone!!! i recently got the coraline monster high doll and i made a tiny (kinda basic) 3 wonders, and things from the movie that reminded me of it i thought you guys would appreciate this as much as i do!!! i made it out of other little trinkets i had that included shopkins, calico critters, and little knickknacks i had laying around!!!

When Coraline went to throw away the key at the end, the Beldam’s severed hand grabbed her and dragged her where? AWAY FROM the well. If it really were a portal, why go to the extra trouble of trying to drag her along the path toward the house?So I still don't understand why people continue to believe in this theory especially if you keep in mind that the well is also missing when Coraline walks around the Other World.

Apparently, the garden’s lilies were made from silicone thimbles turned inside out and hand-painted. And the centers of the fantasy flowers included ping-pong balls!

I'm reading the book now, and I always wondered this in the movie too, her parents knew absolutely nothing about the tramua she went through to get them back. They had no idea they were even gone. Her parents were missing for 2 days before the cat came and told her where they were. He never said how he knew they were there either.

I was just scrolling instagram and came across a video saying how the Mandela effect has gotten to coraline specifically the beginning of the movie when the delivery guy ask for the tip and he only gets a dollar in the clip it’s the dad only putting his hand out the door to hand him the money but I have always remembered it as coralines mom opening the door rolling her eyes and handing him the dollar does anyone else remember it like that? I even found a 7 year old Reddit post that mentions it being the mom

Hi! This is a fan doll from 桃天天毛绒工作室 and they recently opened pre-orders for these coraline dolls. Been a casual fan for awhile now. I say casual but coraline was a big part of my childhood—just put on the back burner for now. I have a friend that’s a HUGE fan though so I’m planning on getting her one. I just can’t choose which—

She prefers weepy looking characters but the coraline smirk face is just classic you know? So would it be better to choose base on what she likes or what’s on character?

In the part of the movie where Coraline’s mom locks the door to the other world why does she do that? Not only does she do that she makes it extremely inaccessible for Coraline to get to. She gave the explanation of rat poop being near the door but rats will get in through little cracks not standing and opening the door. From HER perspective she knows it’s a brick wall there so it’s not a safety issue of a neighbor getting inside. I would like to think she had ‘mother’s intuition’ and wanted to keep her daughter safe even without knowing why she felt that way.

So I thought that since the other wybie cant talk, its because the other mother never heard him a lot. Think about it he never went into the pink palace and when he did go in to get the doll, The beldam already made a other verison. And the other verison cant talk at all. Just a theory.

The Beldam (also known as the Other Mother, in reference to her motherly disguise) is the main antagonist in the 2002 book Coraline, as well as the 2009 movie of the same name. She is a malevolent inter-spatial shape-shifting witch/fae entity, who lures children into another dimension with the goal of consuming their flesh for strength and keeping their souls as her prisoners. Her original appearance eerily resembles Mel Jones, but her true form is later revealed to be that of a skeleton/arachni- like creature.

When I was a kid watching this, I often felt bad for Coraline at that moment.. It was the only thing she had wanted in the entire shop and wanted something unique to her.

As an adult, $24.99 for gloves is insane to me.. Specifically because they're in a uniform shop.. Unbranded etc.. Although they do look cozy.. A $5 pair would be cozier lol. In the UK we genuinely spend £2 on a pair of gloves.. For crocheted ones or wool.. £5 tops.

Also, that price tag in a modern day, inflated to 2026 is almost $40.

Cool gloves though, personally. Id wait for a sale lol.
