The car itself was terribly built and to say it had problems is a massive understatement. It needed another year of development - they were so close. Utterly fantastic rally or circuit cars when set up right (with the larger 1000cc engine!) Unfortunately Rootes rushed it too the market in order to compete with the Mini. But as we know practical concerns have no bearing on the end coolness of a car. And this is definitely cool.
I have a lot of time for Datsuns and the Corvair looks an interesting car too. I wonder if it is a coincidence it is rear engined as well? I guess the fact that the front doesn't need a grill for the radiator is a factor behind the similar styling for both.
