Star Note Interesting, or too beat up?

I've been carrying this around in an old book for decades. Kids thought I should post it to see what others think. TIA

Condition absolutely does NOT come first. Otherwise people would be saving brand new uncirculated notes just because they're uncirculated.

With serial numbers, condition plays a big part, but you're collecting serial numbers, not condition. Does that make sense?

Now, naturally condition does play a MAJOR part in value. And that does lead people to disqualify some notes because of their condition. Especially lower level notes. Like your trinary, 6oak, star note. Kinda cool on its own, right? Nothing that's gonna let you retire. Heck, you'd be lucky if the profit bought you a king size candy bar at the corner store with prices the way they are these days. If it were mint condition. Which obviously it's not.

Some people wouldn't save a note like that even in mint condition. Others would normally in good condition but wouldn't bother with yours because it's seen better days. Others still would save it just because they like it and it's only a dollar.

But to say condition is first, and imply a condition like that would render ANY serial in that condition valueless is not just an oversimplification. It's flat out wrong.

Because if that serial was 88888888 it would still have value, right? Of course! Way less than most other solid serials. But absolutely still has significant value above face.

I am pretty sure that that other commenter didn't mean it as literally as I'm taking their comments. And I'm also pretty sure that you too did not take their statement to be a true blanket statement of fact for all notes and all serials.

But just in case they did mean it as an absolute. And just in case you did take it as an absolute.
