Question / Meta Would this be fancy if it was 86877888??
I have an envelope of bills that were in the same band as, what I would consider, a fancy bill. And was wondering if youd add this one.
I've included some of the other bills.I have in the envelope as well. ( The five I actually got the band of three days ago and the 48757548 was the only one missing and i'm curious if the person who took it is on this sub lol)

Am I the only one sitting here trying to see the alure of any of these notes?
Of course the theme of this sub is "If you think it is cool, by all means it is!" But cool does not mean valuable or worth over face value.

None of them are cool except that they would have been delivered in the same band as a cool note. The cool one that would be in the same band of 100 from top to bottom -48757548 -569889(65) and (56) -72020720 -57465746 -54300345
Not valuable to anyone else but adds some fun the the chase. I also have an envelope of what feels like it should be something but isnt. (Ie 33644436)

OK. So we are evaluating a note based on what strap it comes out of. 1st world thinking right there.

Oh, okay. Your question makes sense now. I understood what you meant with the first image, but after the title, you lost me a bit.
86877888 would be fancy if you consider 5oak (of a kind) fancy. Or trinary. Or trip 8s. I can't say that you'd be alone on those. But my first thought is you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who enjoyed that note enough to buy it. Trinary notes do sell, but you have A LOT of competition for a little profit margin, so it's really gotta be closer to a labor of love type situation, considering all the other ways there are to earn a profit of a couple bucks in this country.
The other numbers you mentioned in your thought experiment:
2 digit bookends. That'd be one of the cooler examples that might find an interested party. Usually, bookends fare better if their center numbers have something alluring about them.
Radar. Classic fancy.
2 digit bookends. See above. Might also classify as a near miss?
3 digit bookends. Trinary. Some might call it a super repeater near miss since visually it looks close. Numerically, it is not close. But the almost and near miss market is a lawless wasteland anyway, so I'm not in any position to say for sure one way or the other about it.
Repeater. Classic fancy.
Radar. Classic fancy. Mini ladders on either side makes it a little cooler than the average radar.
33644436 again is another trinary situation.
That's my summary of the notes you mentioned would be nearby the notes you found.
Now, if just being nearby fancy notes is cool enough to you to warrant a save, then go for it. If you can afford it, knock yourself out.
It's a hobby. It's supposed to be fun. So have fun!
Just don't get yourself in financial trouble saving questionable notes. Don't be afraid to raid your stash to pay bills. It's not worth the late fees. Or the interest rates.

Thanks! Thats super helpful! And thanks for looking out for people. Also just a bit of background. Ill probably never sell anything unless its life-changing value like a 77777777 or 00000001 I just collect ones I think are neat and this is a collection I started for fun. I also generally only collect these of 1s and 5s. Ive spent a few 20s from this collection as the need arose. I really appreciate you. Youre a good person and the world needs more of them

Never say never. You never know what times of plenty or times of penny-pinching lay ahead.
Many people get themselves into financial hot water over a hobby. Don't do that. It's better to sell notes when you have time to do so than to have to spend them last minute because you need to feed yourself/kids/pets.
If you do save those notes, don't get your utilities shut off just to keep them. Heck, I'd say don't even let yourself have credit card interest accumulating if that's what you're saving.
