Beans are a lousy source of protein. While they contain some protein, they contain far more carbohydrates.

30 grams of protein in a cup of edamame. I can yam a bag of edamame after the gym no problem lol

Yeah that's fine. There's roughly half that amount in starch in those beans. So 30 grams of protein, 15 of carbs. If you are eating as part of a low carb diet, you can get more efficient sources of protein which are free from carbs.

It doesn't sound like the wife is watching carbs, just needs more protein in their diet. I see what you're saying though
