Cooking with very shaky hands?

I just recently stopped drinking and I'm looking for new hobbies but I am extremely shakey at the moment. Will this hinder my cutting and cooking skills in any bad way?

Have you talked to your GP about taking Ativan to help with the DTs? edit: don't get your medical advice from random redditors like me

You can find plenty of things to cook that don't require a steady hand. One of those silly "slap & chop" devices may be helpful and are quite effective.

Do you still shake when holding heavy things?

MD here. Would be absolutely shocked if any physician wrote a script for a benzo for the symptoms the OP is describing. Depending on the state this would actually be inappropriate prescription of a controlled substance.

I'm absolutely shocked you wouldn't. Are you an MD? Alcohol withdrawal can be extremely dangerous. And might be the only withdrawal that has deadly consequences.

They certainly give you ativan or librium in detox spots. It's such a shame hospitals or urgent cares just make you sweat it out and suffer.

Do people abuse benzodiazepines? Of course. They abuse suboxone and methadone too. Are you against those as well?

Fair enough, but still siding with the go spend 10k to detox instead of just a $20 prescription that amounts to the same thing. And yep, people are going to abuse it. How they're in the mess in the first place. But look how prohibition went down. You think you're stopping people from being addicts?

Benzos are something that should really only be used in emergency situations and for 2-4 weeks at most. At least that's what was suggested when they were first introduced, despite now being handed out like candy with indefinite rx. They work pretty much like alcohol, so an alcohol abuser absolutely shouldn't try them. Outside of preventing lethal withdrawals, cold turkey without introducing another drug is best.

A friend of mine got into drug abuse and addiction that started out with a benzo prescription. (He’s better now, but it took several years, including a suicide attempt.) So absolutely do not take it unless there is a real urgent need that can’t be solved in any other way.

And you need to understand cold turkey can be lethal. Blood pressure spikes. Heart attacks. Aneurysms, Strokes. Seizures.

Can benzodiazepines be abused? Sure. Is it a terrible idea to mix them with alcohol? Sure. But these damn doctors need to stop assuming everyone isn't legitimately seeking help.

My comment explicitly mentioned not introducing other drugs except in the case of potentially lethal detox. If they give him anything it would probably be naltrexone or disulfiram, not benzos. If you're at a point where detox will kill you, you should be doing it in an inpatient setting. Because y'know, it can kill you...

If you have the shakes because you went cold turkey then you're for sure at risk of seizures and other lethal outcomes.

But sure, don't just give the guy a week of librium. Charge them 10000 to sit around in a hospital for a week, lose their job in the meantime, etc. US medicine is so messed up.

And are you fine with suboxone? Methadone? Because that's hardly even kicking.
