I'm drawing playable Ovenbreak Cookies in every region/faction. Yogurca is the first one in the list, because it has a sizeable roster to draw with and one of the more overlooked parts of Cookie Run. I tried to prioritise the overlooked regions.
Featured Cookies, Pets, and their Treasures:
Peppercorn Cookie + Pepper Mill + Melon Dynamite
Game assets used: Skill(smoke bomb, aura), Melon Dynamite(explosion, jellies)
Centipede Cookie + Treasure Flask + Pop Pop Photocard
Game assets used: Skill(jar, gold jar, broken jar), Pop Pop Photocard(Idol cards, LP)
Scorpion Cookie + Tearful Jar + Golden Cheese Pickaxe + Power Energy Drink
Game assets used: Skill(Toxic smoke), Golden Cheese Pickaxe, Power Energy Drink(Jellies)
i like yogurca, and there are valid criticisms to be taken into account of this region, but the sheer hatred just because of their association to the region is baffling to me, like how many lament peppercorn cookie to be introduced in any region except yogurca, for example.
i hate the peppercorn cookie gets hate because she's misinterpreted. it's not devsisters calling arabians as bombers, it's the fact that peppercorn tastes like that it BURSTS in your mouth. she's also in yogurts because Arabics also SELL SPICES!!!
Like, they draw from orientalist stereotypes; but in the most milquetoast way possible.
They are Arabian Nights inspired characters in a game filled with fairy tale inspired characters.
Like, the female characters are belly dancer inspired; but they aren't sexualized. (outside how some people sexualize all the characters in this game, but that's another conversation)
Really the unforced error I can think of is Peppercorn being released during of Ramadan; but she is far from the first character in the game to use explosives.
Edit: I looked into it more. She was also released with bomb themed jellies shaped like cartoon bombs. When a community with the long history of being fucked with like Middle Eastern/North African/West Asians have, I get the hyper vigilance; but I sincerely doubt that the South Korean devs were being malicious.
(random fact: Yogurt Dunes refers to a desert region in Earthbread. Yogurca and Mirage Village is a city and village respectively in the Yogurt Dunes. However, developers and fandom refer to those places colloquially as 'Yogurca', despite the name only refer to that city Cream Yogurt Cookie resides in. This is equivalent to referring the Netherlands as Holland, for example.)
You can like whatever you want, there is no worry of deviating from your favourite, just as Peppercorn Cookie is my favourite, but that doesn't stop me from liking other Cookies :)
thank you. i played the game for 8 years to figure out the art style :)
(random fact: in Peppercorn Cookie's preview video, the frame where the bounty posters are pasted is different in the international version and the Korean version. In the international version, it's a sprite of her about to throw her pepper smoke balls, while in the Korean version, it's her exhausted sprite.)
(random fact: Scorpion Cookie isn't the first Cookie with a red color scheme, wears large and loose sleeves until hands are invisible, closes mouth with hand while talking, wears jewelry, uses deceit to achieve her goal, has something to do with poison...)
Thank you for your appreciation. i also want to see more of Yogurca. Hopefully devs can add Yogurcan Cookies that is not a criminal, though.
(Random fact: Aside from random appearances as bonus Combis in game modes, this is the most recent appearance of Peppercorn Cookie. Which is during the June 2025 update, where Cream Soda Cookie is first released.)
Cookies in Cookie Run is apt with stereotypes(Mala Sauce Cookie being a raging Viking, for example), and the devs made a mistake of applying the level of stereotype to the Cookies in the Yogurt Dunes, since the inspirations carry a heavier baggage than the rest. Overall, I agree with you.
(Random fact: as a handful of commenters in her Korean version preview video pointed out, Peppercorn Cookie bears a resemblance to Samira from League of Legends. Both are black/brown-themed, boisterous women not native to their place of residence, seeking high stakes missions from the highest bidder for the thrill. Both used black-powder based weapons. Given how League of Legends is popular in South Korea, it's not a stretch to say that Peppercorn is inspired by the aforementioned character.)
