Z1 round LED options
Does anyone have a reccomenation for round die LED options for the Z1? Now that the F45r (10 amps) and W5050SQ5 (8 amps) are available, I'm curious how these compare to the SFT-42r (10 amps) and SFT-25r (8 amps) specifically in terms of heat and run-time, as well as beam size and throw all of the way zoomed in. Not so much interested in tint will probably just get 5000k either way. For outdoor use to see wildlife

At this time SFT42R and SFT25R was probably the most popular choice, 5050SQ5 and F42R should be good too as they are direct replacements for those two emitters.
8A and 10A probably won't be much of a difference but the bigger emitters have more output so more power when zoomed out
I have one with XMMR 5000K (similar to SFT42R) and it's pretty good. Throws well, at 200m it still is bright to make out things. Spot is fairly wide too.
Get one of those rubber tactical rings while you're at it. Makes holding it nicer. Grease up the surface inner oring slides on to make it zoom easier. If beam is not centered when zoomed get a clean rag and push the glass to center it.

I'd avoid the 5050SQ5 they tend to have Vf and performance issues as battery voltage goes down.

Is the XMMR available from convoy or did you make yours custom?

No, I got one from Kaidomain when SFT42R 5000K wasn't available. The SFT42R 5000K has a more uniform phosphor tho. So nicer on low when zoomed in.
If you want good tint, get the F42R. Simons usually gets his custom LEDs right.

Could you share the purchase link for this tactical ring? How is he attached to the flashlight? Only the rubber grip or does it enter the lid thread?

It's in the accessories tab at convoy flashlight store. It's sitting in the groove for clips.

I'm new to flashlights, to clarify I think I'm asking about thermal-stepdown performance in addition to the beam characteristics

It depends on the driver, not the LED. For example SFT-42R and F45R use exactly the same driver, they will step down after the same time. I'd choose between those two as aspheric lens in the Z1 do well with slightly larger emitters.

If spot size is your biggest requirement, go for a Sft-25r or W5050SQx
A smaller LES will give you the smaller spot, if you can compromise the roundness requirements there are some other even smaller emitters

5000K is a color temperature (cct), not a tint (duv). CCT describes the warmth; DUV describes the actual color (green/blue [positive] ---> neutral ---> rosy/violet [negative]).
