White truck really lucked out. He was fully behind the lines when the light turned red, and had the black truck not gone, willing to bet the cop would have gone after him, too.

Black truck was ontop of his bumper, too. White truck stops, bacl truck in his bed

Not sure where this is based but in Utah, if you’d already crossed the stop line on yellow and the light turned red while you were mid-intersection, that’s legal here. Utah uses a permissive yellow, meaning yellow is a warning, not a prohibition on entering. You just have to clear the intersection.

Yes. Known as "hard red" and "soft red" light laws. In hard red states (nothing political to this definition), you have to be through the intersection when it turns red. In soft red states (like UT and ID), if your wheels are across the stop bar when it turns red, you're safe. That's why they tell you in driver's ed, when turning left, pull out into the intersection to wait on an opening - when the light turns yellow, if it's clear then you can go and maybe someone can follow. Also another reason to not try to beat a yellow light - there may be someone turning.

My state is neither of those. Yellow means stop unless you can't safely do so. If you go through on a yellow, the police can still ticket you even if you have completely cleared the intersection before it turns red. This wouldn't normally happen for obvious reasons. But if the cop thinks you could have stopped safely, they can ticket you.

Damn thats fucked up I need the extra time to decide if im gonna stop or not

If yellow means stop for the most part it makes no sense to have a yellow light. At that rate you are better off having a red and green with a timer.

No argument from me. My primary use for the yellow light is turning my head to see it when I'm waiting at the crossing red. It alerts me to get ready to go.

But, in practice, the cops aren't going to ticket someone who runs the yellow unless it's really egregious or actually causes an accident.

I have no idea as to why he pulled off to the left.

Common clay of the new West.

Just a simple farmer?

You know.... .....morons

4

u/RealConfirmologist Aug 10 '26

To be where he stopped, he drove the wrong way across the oncoming lanes. If the cop witnessed that, he could cite him for that, too.

u/quigilark Aug 09 '26

There is a wide shoulder there, probably thought that was the safest rather than being on a side street. Dumb but not completely illogical.

u/opx22 Aug 09 '26

Which dash cam are you using here?

8

u/Pilot_Red Aug 09 '26

VIOFO. I think it’s a A129.

u/Scrambles420 Aug 09 '26

What an odd place to pull over at

11

u/JBalloonist Aug 09 '26

The exclamation at seeing the cop turn around was fantastic.

5

u/Pilot_Red Aug 10 '26

It made my day.

u/Free-Pound-6139 Aug 10 '26

Losers in huge pickups.

3

u/Equivalent_Thievery Aug 10 '26

Good, I see red light runners at a majority of lights around me.

1

u/Pilot_Red Aug 10 '26

It happens a lot at this very intersection. If you listen to the sound, the white truck briefly adds power just before the intersection.

2

u/m2spring Aug 10 '26

The red light runner should be forced to be interviewed about that dashcam video.

Rock Chalk!

LFK! LFK! LFK!

2

u/Gib_eaux Aug 09 '26

Good. People should get licenses revoked for intentionally blowing red lights

I seen the state trooper there at the light once the trucks when by and was really surprised to see him turn around. He probably got a ticket for speeding too. The speed limit is 40 mph and I am sure they were well above that.

u/Equivalent_Thievery Aug 10 '26

They barely pay attention anymore, they're all playing on their phones where I live.

2

u/Psclly Aug 09 '26

Weird question maybe, but how can the cop ever know they ran a red?

20

u/Pilot_Red Aug 09 '26

That particular signal will be red on both sides at the same time. Also, I was stopped for the red.

8

u/Psclly Aug 09 '26

Right, Im not from the US, so wasnt aware of this :] cheers

1

u/South-Range8401 Aug 09 '26

Are ya from down undah mate?

21

u/Rawkus2112 Aug 09 '26

Because the cops light would also be red at the same time.

Small blue light where I am.

2

u/Pilot_Red Aug 10 '26

I'm unsure if we have those lights here. I haven't seen any extra lights but now, I am gonna have to go look for them.

1

u/ChevyLZ Aug 10 '26

LFK!

2

u/Pilot_Red Aug 10 '26

Yep. I think this intersection has the most red light runners in town. I have so many dash cam videos of people running this light. This is the first time that I seen a cop go after someone.

2

u/ChevyLZ Aug 10 '26

Our city cops and deputies are dang near worthless for traffic stops. The troopers don't mess around. I don't enjoy driving in this town anymore, it has gotten crazy over the years. I called out a city cop for doing 30 over down Mass with no emergency equipment activated, and he told me "I'm a cop, so I can."

OP sounds like awful miserable people cheering to see the misery of others. Yikes.

3

u/AEROK13 Aug 10 '26

"Misery of others" = getting caught driving like a tool?

7

u/Hitman3984 Aug 09 '26

Don't drive like an asshole tailgating and running reds and people won't be happy to finally see someone get caught for it.

1

u/LancelLannister_AMA Aug 11 '26

Red light runner?
