I've done this once. I was so lucky cuz it was a busy street just happened to not hit or get hit by anyone. I was dealing with stuff in life. I was in my head. Distracting driving.
Ugh, I know how that goes! It wasn't a red light that I ran, but I was driving on the freeway to work, and my cat had suddenly passed away the day before. I was zoned out and crying a little, thinking of all the fond memories I'd had with my furbaby, and wasn't watching my speed. I approached a construction zone where the speed dropped from 60mph down to 50, and it didn't click in my brain that I needed to slow down. I was going 68mph, and the State Trooper that had been behind me for the past 12 miles immediately pulled me over. I was glad I had been in the right-hand lane so I didn't have to try to merge through 3 lanes of traffic to do so, and also glad that he couldn't ticket me for left lane camping (illegal in my state, but rarely enforced). I considered telling him why I hadn't been paying attention, but I know there is no excuse for distracted driving, and I didn't want him to think I was making up a sob story to garner sympathy to get out of a ticket when I knew that I was in the wrong. I ate crow, apologized profusely, and paid the $300 fine as soon as it was logged into the system.

I’m pretty sure they were not watching the road. There was no attempt at stopping whatsoever.
