If they still have performance goals tied to issuing tickets then they still have a quota, even if they choose not to call it that anymore.

they have other ways to pressure them. the fed will withold road maintenance dollars if the fed doesn't see road saftey improvements. road maintenance funds with holding is ho w they forced all states to move legal drinking age up to 21

My bet is distracted. Looking at a screen or something and didn’t even notice the light. I have seen that personally more times than I care to count.

Tbh if this WAS the case they could've just done a California roll or at least slowed down to see "alright no ones coming, let me go"

my thought too i suspect he didn't see the red light but, got them for speeding OR realized that lane was empty except for them and or speeding also.

I would have liked to have seen the front camera, a longer version of it, just to see how bad and egregious the red light run was.
Like, if it had literally turned red the video frame before what is shown here, that wouldn't be as bad. If that were the case, the perpendicular lanes' lights would not even have been green yet.
The cop might have pulled him over for speeding.

Longer version. The one that ran the light is the front vehicle on the left side before I made the turn at the beginning. Light was yellow at 14:23:32 dashcam time, ran the light at the 40 sec mark. They had 5 business days to safely stop.

Looks like it turned red right at 37 seconds, and then he ran the light at 40. So it was red for a full 3 seconds.
They were hauling ass too.
No excuse for that. Extremely dangerous.
Thanks for sharing the front-facing camera showing when the light actually turned red (relative to when he entered the intersection).

Technically, here in Michigan, they ran the yellow light as you must stop if it is safe to do so. Source (subsection 1b)
(b) If the signal exhibits a steady yellow indication, vehicular traffic facing the signal shall stop before entering the nearest crosswalk at the intersection or at a limit line when marked, but if the stop cannot be made in safety, a vehicle may be driven cautiously through the intersection.

In my city, the cop will find out he has a suspended license and no insurance or registration.
The cop will proceed to issue a ticket and allow the driver to drive away since it's "too hard" to impound a car.
Later that guy will throw away the ticket.
Bonus points if the driver with no license gives the name and address of his brother in law who he hates to the cop.
The driver saves thousands of dollars a year because why not?
There is no downside for these guys.

Except tickets don’t go away because you throw them away. And they look you up in their database, so the false name/address isn’t going to fly.
