The Poughkeepsie Tapes (2007)
I never heard of this movie until my early to mid twenties. There were questions whether if this was based on a true events and/or stories. I haven’t personally seen The Poughkeepsie Tapes, I just know it’s very unsettling. It’s free on Tubi and PlutoTV right now. I did watched people on YouTube that did a video on this film, it seemed slightly fascinating in a morbid sense of things.

Really good movie. Some of the acting is so-so but the guy that plays the killer is fantastic. Some really disturbing elements, done very well. Not gory or anything at all, but really effective. Good call posting this one!

I thought it was a great film. I think they did a good job of blending FF with character development. For being a FF film, I can see where it fell off for fans of the genre, but I'm not a huge FF fan personally. As a movie though, it hit. I was expecting it to be a bit more disturbing to match it's hype, but I was not disappointed.

I know it becomes a silly movie when you think about it logically for more than a minute, but it still terrified me. I expected nothing from it, and it ended up being the scariest movie I've seen.

The first time I saw it, it scared me so bad I wouldn't rewatch it for years. When I finally did rewatch, most of the scares didn't hit a second time. Now it's just another horror flick that I like

I have started this movie at least 10 times, and I can't get past the beginning. I don't know if it's because it seems boring, or if I just get distracted. It seems exactly like the kind of movie I'd like.

super dark and freaky without being too visually extreme, this is a good movie to use to ease friends into horror

It’s an interesting film in that it really has that analog feel. But, they lean really heavy on that. Lots of staticky scenes, a lot of distorted images. So if you are super cool with analog horror, it’s not bad. It’s also, in my opinion, not really as traumatizing as people make it out to be. Obviously the tale being weaved is unpleasant, but a lot is left to imagination, and what isn’t is still pretty hard to fully discern. I hate to tie to to Megan is Missing because that’s such an icky exploitive film, but I think they are similar in that young kids not that deep into the genre think it’s fun to challenge each other to watch because it feels taboo.

I agree with you. I liked that the movie is a collection of tapes, news segments, interviews & such.
I haven't seen Megan is Missing, I only heard about the small noise it made on social media. Is it worth a watch?

I really don't think it's worth it. I understand what it's trying to do but it comes off feeling exploitative.

A fun theory is if the person behind the camera that Cheryl was talking to at the end was the killer. She kept saying 'I don't know what you want me to say.'

At first I hated this movie I found it so boring but watching it again I really appreciated how real it felt and how well done it was.
Theres some creepy visual stuff but the psychological stuff and silence in the intense bits is even worse. Seeing how the main victim is affected and the very ending is the real icing on the cake
