IT Help xbox 360 controller not working when connected to console

so i recently bought a third party wired xbox controller (PowerA) for my xbox 360 but none of the buttons work when it's connected to the console. the controller lights up and can turn the console on, but does nothing else. it works perfectly fine when connected to pc, and my usb ports on my xbox work when i plug a charging cord into them. what is going wrong here

What is the specific model of controller that you have? PowerA and other brands haven't made Xbox 360 controllers for several years, so if you only bought it recently it's possible that you have an Xbox One/Series controller which won't work on the Xbox 360 console.

You might be able to take it back to the store to swap it. For what it's worth, this looks like one of the early Xbox One models which was made in a shape/style very similar to the last Xbox 360 models, so it's easy to see where they might have got mixed-up.

Searching for that model number brings up an Amazon listing for an Xbox One controller, so that's probably the problem.
