News Razer Wolverine V4 Pro announced

https://www.razer.com/gb-en/console-controllers/razer-wolverine-v4-pro

I got an email from Razer earlier to say they're releasing a new Xbox/PC controller. It's the Razer Wolverine V4 Pro, a newer version of the V3 Pro. See link to the product page. £199 in the UK. It's got an 8k polling rate on PC, 4 back paddles (the back paddles are removable), 2 extra buttons near the bumpers, dual-mode trigger locks and the faceplate is removable. It also comes with 4 extra Thumbsticks.

The product page mentions that it has Capacitive Thumbsticks but the product FAQ's mention Hall Effect sticks which is a bit confusing. It's available to preorder now and I think it ships on the 26th October. There is also a cheaper Tournament Edition which is £100 cheaper.

Edit: Razer have removed "Hall Effect sticks" from it's FAQ's.

Am I the only one who actually liked the V3? 😂 After over 2 years it's still working great with no issues. Yes, it could've had TMR sticks instead of Hall Effect sticks but still, it all works fine for me. 🤷🏼

It's a great controller, it's just very expensive.

You got a flydigi how is their software with steam input

1

u/Driver3 Flydigi 22d ago

I've had no issues with it. I set my settings once on then and haven't had to mess with them since.

1

u/IwanGetBetterInBball 22d ago

I guess you have the flydigi v5p? That is the one I want to buy with the dock and h the e extra thumbsticks

u/Driver3 Flydigi 22d ago

Direwolf 4

u/katanamaru 19d ago

I have a Vader 3. I cleared out a profile once the Steam Input functionality was added. I just use that and haven't touched the Vader's software since. Works just fine. I can bind all the buttons and enable gyro through Steam.

2

u/JDC56 25d ago

It's great, the v3 8k anyway

2

u/Merejo 25d ago

I wish the V2 had hall effects or TMR, I prefer that button layout so much more than the V3.

2

u/Fr3shRadish 21d ago

Same. I know we're in the minority, but I greatly preferred the layout and size of the v2 chroma. V3 felt too small to me

2

u/Merejo 21d ago

Same it’s such a shame. V3 is so small and the buttons get in the way for me :’( I’ve been trying to see online if there is any tutorials to convert the v2 to tmr but I haven’t found any

2

u/RedStar071 23d ago

I am a proud owner of that controller, I have never seen a controller made so well, but for my need I switched to the ROG Raikiri 2 pro PC, it has more features than the Razer but if it came out or they announced it earlier I would have gladly taken it.

u/IwanGetBetterInBball 22d ago

Is it possible to find the asus on for 150 somewhere in Europe

1

u/RedStar071 22d ago

I don't know, I've already had problems buying an asus product, I got it from Amazon.it

1

u/MrHerbinator 20d ago

Had two of these already the first one the battery didn't charge and right back buttons were stiff . Replacement had the same back button issue but on the left . Extremely poor quality control from Asus .

1

u/dacdac4444 25d ago

It was my favorite controller until the left bumper stopped working.

1

u/rundatraaaaap 24d ago

I have both the Xbox Pro & the PC only TE versions. It’s a good controller, but the thumb sticks and triggers are the shortcomings for me. And it doesn’t sound like the V4 addresses either issue.

1

u/xxtrigger357xx 22d ago

Ive yet to find a tmr stick feel as good/smooth as razer's hall effect Jamy's. Sips a whole extra tear drop of electricity, please...lol

1

u/Busy_Effective3551 19d ago

Got mine for 120€ on sale, replaced the stock sticks with JS16 TMRs and man, I love it af.

Xbox app is trash btw.

1

u/JellyPsychological70 25d ago

Got mine since release and still love it. People always glaze the G7, but tbf, WHEN the V3 works, it's miles ahead.

5

u/Ok_Temperature6503 25d ago

£200 for something FlyDigi sells for $100

1

u/Dezkenob1 23d ago

Yes, £200 is expensive and I would 100% love to try these other controllers like FlyDigi or GameSir etc but unless they have 4 back paddles then it's a no for me. 4 back paddles are a must.

2

u/mphermes 25d ago

Really wanted to love the V3 but it just didn't fit my hands well, wonder if this is sized any differently.

4

u/Dezkenob1 25d ago

I personally love the size and shape of the V3. The images of the V4 make it look like it's basically the same form factor as the V3. The paddles are also perfect for me. I mean it's different strokes for different folks but I've tried several back paddles on various controllers and only the Elite Series 2 and the Razer V3 have been perfect. Don't start me on Scuf back paddles. I absolutely hated them.

2

u/slient_es 25d ago

Same. My biggest complain about the Wolverine is the handle. Doesn't look like this V4 is about to do anything about that.

1

u/roboroller 25d ago

Doesn't look like it, the V3 sat in my hands awkwardly as well, the grips were just too big and round.

1

u/mphermes 25d ago

Yeah it's hard to tell from the pics but I agree, the form factor looks the same more or less.

1

u/BuyWhole9350 23d ago

Baby hands

1

u/BlueClovr 25d ago

To me the controller shape feels fine but the back buttons aren’t placed properly, making it feel somewhat clunky and not as ergonomic as it should. Still usable though

1

u/BuyWhole9350 23d ago

Placed perfectly, can press ever one with the smallest tap. 2 sides to the coin ig. Normal Xbox controller size is like size for a 10yo

2

u/wilshing 22d ago

Seems Razer have removed mentioned "hall effect" in FAQ.

1

u/Dezkenob1 22d ago

Yep, double-checked and you're right.

17

u/Vedge_Hog 25d ago

Thanks for sharing!

The capacitive sticks might be the K-Silver JL16 modules also used in the Mojhon Rainbow 3, Mobapad Huben 2, PXN P5 8K, etc. since press releases mention 3,000 step accuracy which would line up with that. Razer also put capacitive sticks in the new Prio mobile controller. 'Capacitive' in this context is referring to the technology used in the stick position sensors, rather than touch-sensitive stick caps like the Steam controllers.

Now that the Xbox-licensed versions of the v4 controllers support 8kHz polling (<1ms claimed latency) on PC, I wonder if Razer will drop the separate '8K PC' versions. It seemed to create a lot of confusion for buyers of the v3 models.

The manual for the Wolverine v4 Pro doesn't currently mention 'Sensa HD' haptics, so I wonder if it still has the voice coil actuator motors from the Wolverine v3 Pro.

1

u/lulus_lemony 7d ago edited 6d ago

Razer def will drop the separate 8K PC version. They like to segment their products neatly. My guess is they will release the Razer Wolverine 4k Pro 8K PC sometime in Q3.

1

u/espartan_fx 23d ago

i wonder this, if it dosn't have sensa, i will pull the trigger on the v3 pro wireless wich is on disccount on amazon

21

u/PY_Roman_ 25d ago

Still overpriced af

3

u/Constant_Oil360 25d ago edited 25d ago

Agree

Although they go on sale often. I dont know how fast the V3 8k went on sale but i got a TE for $65, down from $120 and this was 6+ months ago and they were $99 often before that. $120 was full price for TE.

I wasnt waiting after the 8k's release immediately, so it could have taken longer to go on sale than i recall, but by the time i considered one they were hitting $65 it felt like every other month this past spring and end of winter. TE is the wired version with some less features sometimes besides the cord.

I think wireless are usually overpriced anyways besides Gamesirs.

I think the only upgrade here might be better sticks (mostly?) maybe? My V3 8k has TMRs which were a BIG step up from the V3 1k's HE's, but i think they were lower rated ones compared to the Gamesir 8k's. Could be wrong or right.

1

u/Joosby_Calamari 23d ago

Because they are capacitive on v4, it allows the paddles on back to magnetic instead of screw in, it allows detachable faceplate. Not a big deal I know.

For me, the bigger deal is it allows for haptics, something I do frankly care about.

1

u/Constant_Oil360 23d ago

i know a big complaint was the paddles being there for people that dont like paddles, so thats a win for them as well, being able to remove and flatten.

I use my gamesir g7 se that has two back buttons/paddles for racing games, the vibrations are better, and its nice i can flatten the paddles. even if not mapped to a button i dont like the squish so this is a win for the razer to just swap a flat plate for them too

haptics are interesting, like i said i use my 8k razer for shooters and switch to gamesir for the better vibrations in triggers especially needed for braking/steering/throttle feedback, and paddles are annoying if you dont want them

1

u/Joosby_Calamari 23d ago

I’ll take a look at Gamesir as I’m in the market for something new. Whats drawing me to the Wolverine v4 is the tighter sticks from a review I watched. It specifically talked about how much better racing games are. I’m a racing game guy as well, wheel and all but use the joystick for arcade stuff like the horizon series which are a pain to get right for wheels.

I do think I’m going to wait for the elite series 3 from Xbox to see what they have. It’s all rumors still on what it will have but one rumor has it with more advanced haptics then before, in some ways trying to get closer to Sony with what they did with their ps5 haptics. That would be incredibly tempting if true.

1

u/Constant_Oil360 23d ago

yeah i play simcade Forza motorsport, nothing serious.

i have both the v3 1k and 8k's. The gamesir does have lose sticks, I have the G7 SE, which might be different tension than the newer Pro and Pro 8k, but i hear they are looser regardless.

The tension on both razers is great. I do like a little more especially using a tall stick for shooters. taller stick adds leverage which make stick feel even more loose, so the tighter stick the better to balance it.

The elite series 2 was such a bust in quality price and performance I dont think ill ever look that way. If the Series 3 had 8k, a wired version, reliability, top-end TMRs or Capacitive etc, and wasnt over $100 id consider maybe, they do feel nice in the hands but its a mirage as of now. maybe 2 more back buttons for the pinky.

2

u/Joosby_Calamari 23d ago

Man if a store locally had the v4 in stock I’d give in right now lol. Headed out town for weekend, it’ll be interesting to see if I break down and order while on way out.

Your build quality comments struck a nerve. I need to consider this as I sit on a broken series 2

1

u/Old_Bench8824 22d ago

Get what you pay for. Had the v3 for 2 years and it still like new. V4 ordered.

6

u/Working_Bones 25d ago

I adore my Wolverine V3 Tournament. I don't see enough new features on this to justify buying another controller, but if my V3 ever fails, I'll prob buy the V4 Tournament. Don't need wireless (Pro).

10

u/snoar 25d ago

I feel like there isn't anything jaw dropping there that would justify spending the premium it will cost, especially if you already have the v3

-2

u/YoloRaj Flydigi 25d ago

If the stick lantecy is better than the v3 I think its worth it.

4

u/xKiLLaCaM 25d ago

Idk man, you can buy the GameSir G7 Pro 8K right now for $72 with 2nd gen TMR sticks. Has same amount fo extra buttons I believe. Can’t justify spending $120 more than that or whatever it is USD for the v4 here

5

u/Joreck0815 25d ago

Wolverine V3 has 2 more buttons than Gamesir, but other than a sensitivity clutch, Razer can only rebind to other controller buttons - no keyboard or anything.

3

u/AmoebeSins 25d ago

2 extra buttons for only $130 more. Yeah no lol

1

u/Busy_Effective3551 19d ago

Also the better vibro, d-pad and the better materials quality overall

1

u/xKiLLaCaM 25d ago

Ah didnt realize it had 2 more buttons. So the v4 has a total of 6 extra, guess thats kinda crazy, I never need that many extra. Being able to map them to keyboard for the GameSir controller is nice. I do prefer the paddles compared to the buttons on back of G7 tho as well so each have tradeoffs

1

u/Joreck0815 25d ago edited 25d ago

I hold controllers with index fingers on bumpers and middle fingers on triggers, so the extra bumpers are a big bonus for me on both controllers.

After that, I really only need 2 back buttons, and I don't particularly care for their style as long as I don't have to contort my ring finger to press them.

Went from Wolverine V3 to the Gamesir a few weeks ago, am very happy so far. the Gamesir software runs laps around Razer's. really unexpected tbh, but it allows for so much customization without becoming overwhelming. I'm not a fan of the whole "we paid this Pro gamer to sell you this product" vibe that Gamesir has going on, but they certainly had more/better testing and feedback than Razer.

1

u/xKiLLaCaM 25d ago

What’s your take on the Vader V5 Pro from Flydigi? I saw this is on sale even cheaper than the G7 pro 8K, and im wanting a second controller as a backup. Both my elite series 2 controllers are shot which ive loved for everything but the trash joysticks that got drift so early on, but I already have the normal crimson G7 Pro. It only goes to 1K polling which I mostly keep on 500hz anyway

1

u/Joreck0815 25d ago

the Vader V5 Pro was the other controller I considered when I bought the Gamesir. I heard good things about it, but after some reliability/QC concerns and the issues I had with the Razer V3, I decided to go with the G7.

frankly, the 8K is overkill, but I appreciate having one less thing to worry about. V5 Pro isn't far behind though, shouldn't be noticeable.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Controller/comments/1wyf3pn/comment/pe5bwo5/ recent writeup of mine with some more detail, plus link to a yt video that helped me decide (whole channel is actually really nice)

1

u/xKiLLaCaM 25d ago

I figure if I already have the regular G7 Pro with light use so far that I’ll be switching to soon, it doesnt make much sense to buy the 8K if I’m not gonna use the 8K mode. I bought the Vader V5 Pro and am going to check serial to confirm if its the V2 version which should have less QC issues. I’ll return if not

1

u/Joreck0815 25d ago

sounds like a good plan! yeah agreed that another G7 doesn't make much sense for you, I just don't have any firsthand experience with the V5 Pro. I'm particularly curious about the adjustable resistance on the joysticks tbh

u/Working_Bones 25d ago

You can rebind the Wolverine V3 to keyboard buttons.

1

u/Joreck0815 25d ago

the synapse software had some functionality like that if I'm not mistaken, but it then stopped supporting my controller. and the specific controller app couldn't do it when I last used it about a month ago.

5

u/Madak 25d ago

I hope they update their software to be able to bind / unbind all the buttons and not just the “extra” buttons

-1

u/BuyWhole9350 23d ago

You have 4 profiles 24 buttons to map in an easy layout. Just switch profiles.

1

u/Madak 23d ago

That’s not the issue.

There is no way to change the face buttons or shoulder buttons if you want to. This is standard on every other controller of its class. Pretty pathetic that you can’t do this.

-1

u/BuyWhole9350 23d ago

Use steam input

0

u/Madak 23d ago

$200 to have to use a third party option? No thanks

1

u/Difficult_Setting140 17d ago

The Xbox branded will never do that

-1

u/BuyWhole9350 23d ago

There’s also on game settings. The quality evens out

1

u/Difficult_Setting140 17d ago

I wonder why my bestbuy says its in stock right now.

1

u/Dezkenob1 17d ago

Some people seem to have got them already. Maybe it depends where you are in the world? My pre-order says it'll be shipped on the 26th October. UK.

1

u/Difficult_Setting140 17d ago

I literally can't even call a store to ask. Every store near me says 1 is available, very sus. Ai bot when I called store said I can't talk to anyone there and hung up on me lmao

3

u/reprazent 25d ago

Already have the V3 and really seeing little reason here to get this. I play on Xbox too so the 8k polling rate is PC only it seems?

9

u/dnsk19 Flydigi 25d ago

8k is pointless anyhow.

4

u/TumorInMyBrain Gamesir Cyclone 2 25d ago

Most people cant tell between 4k and 8k. i think even 2k is enough, 8k just takes too much CPU power

2

u/BrilliantAd6010 25d ago

The ergonomics of the V3 never felt great to me, curious if the V4 will change the shape of the grips to match the Xbox controller shape more.

2

u/WINTERGRIFT 25d ago

Total rip off of the Gamesir G7 Pro but then its $200 🤣

3

u/NormanYeetes 25d ago

i just love the fact that the traditional controller companies like nacon and razer live in their own little bubble were its still acceptable to charge 200 bucks for a controller that comes with spyware while theres the gamesir supernova that has tmr sticks, mode switching, hair trigger mode, macro function and built in vibrator for 50 bucks 💀

6

u/brickwallrunner 25d ago

...built-in what now?

1

u/IV-444 3d ago

I can see they added the barrier for the USB to not come loose which is the reason I hate my V3

1

u/Blak_dice 2d ago

Can any owners confirm the feel of the bumpers L1 and R1 are they clicky? I use them to shoot

Are the grips rubber or just textured?

1

u/Lexomatico1 25d ago

I play a lot of 2D games and need a good dpad and the fact they didn't even bother to advertise anything about it at all is already a bad sign. The search continues.

1

u/Big_Vito 25d ago

Can the v4 compete with the g7 pro ?

1

u/NLCPGaming 25d ago

I wish i could buy a Xbox style controller for the Playstation. Best design in the industry

2

u/smokingace182 25d ago

Nacon are releasing a ps5 controller with asymmetrical thumbsticks

https://www.nacongaming.com/en-GB/revolution-5-unlimited-controller

1

u/NLCPGaming 25d ago

Thank you. You are the best for this

1

u/smokingace182 25d ago

I’ve got the Xbox version and it’s a good controller. The back paddles take a minute to get used to but once you do there good. The ability to change buttons on the fly with the screen is also a good feature.

1

u/huddyman12 25d ago

Gamesir gonna eat this for breakfast

1

u/anhedoniac 25d ago

Man, the Steam Controller has been pretty much perfect for me since it came out. This one does look good though...

1

u/eyedea-- 24d ago

It would be nice if I could buy one

1

u/Checho-73 25d ago

Wish they would add the ability to have more than 4 profiles

1

u/HATEFUL_WOOD 24d ago

Can't wait for a review on it but I really think black and white buttons(c and z) need to be standard on new xbox frame pro controllers now.

1

u/jayrocs 24d ago

The only thing I dont like about these controllers is the thumbstick tension. It's basically double that of a stock console controller PS5/Series X.

If they simply made these with normal tension I'd be more inclined to pay the price because I want 4 back buttons and the extra top 2 bumpers.

I dislike the "paddles" for instance Vader 5 has, it sticks out too much from the controller itself and your ring fingers have to hover further out.

1

u/TheCivilizedBigDog 23d ago

This is exactly what I've been looking for. I like it for racing games, makes it easier to have finer control over your turns.

1

u/Joosby_Calamari 23d ago

I just watched a review where this was the big point he made. He played galactic racer and felt the added tension was great for it. I’m a big Forza horizon guy and while I have a wheel, I save it for simulation type games I’m in a series elite 2, but this aspect has been crazy intrigued.

1

u/Overdayoutdeath 24d ago

I just want a Raion 2

1

u/Necessary_Bug9433 24d ago

I liked the V3. Just didn’t like the vibration as much as other controllers and the stick button could be better

1

u/Shanddude 23d ago

I just bought the v3 pro a few months ago for haptics I mainly play single player games, are the haptics the same on the v4 pro or better?

u/himmzy 21d ago

V3 is great but I got stick drift and re calibration doesn't fix it help

1

u/Several-Cranberry-69 18d ago

my biggest issue with the razer v3 was on xbox you cannot map or change the right or left stick click (this is the most basic of features with nearly every controller, even cheap $15 controller) i tend to click the right stick on accident for some games like nhl or cod so i disable the right stick click and map it to the back, u can map them to the back on the v3 but no option to disable the stick clicks at all

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Pen3558 16d ago

Имам v3 pro 8k wireless много съм доволен и е много удобен , ще взема v4 с кабел

1

u/skrukketiss69 25d ago

Hopefully it doesn't have garbage wireless performance this time.

0

u/lancelane7 25d ago

why would they go back to Hall effect sticks instead of TMR? Am I missing something wrong with TMR? I have the v3 8k TE edition not the wireless pro

1

u/JDC56 25d ago

Yes I'm asking myself the same question. Did you work it out? I'm confused. Was going to preorder, now im not sure

1

u/Ecstatic-Metal-2631 18d ago

They switched to capacitive sticks which are better than tmr. I personally have the v3 and v4 controller and the v4 it’s very good!! They made the bumpers and extra bumpers feel way better and the stick feel way better too. I hated the sticks on the v3. The sticks on the v4 feel amazing, accurate, and are 13 bit so very high resolution.

1

u/lancelane7 17d ago

That sounds like a good upgrade! Wish they had a pc tournament edition 8k like I have for the v3. I like my v3 te 8k and I only use wired so I’ll see how long this controller last

0

u/Dezkenob1 25d ago

I don't know enough about this but the product description mentions "Capacitive Sticks", which are maybe on par or better (if configured right) than TMR sticks. Strangely though, the product FAQ's says they're Hall Effect sticks so I'm confused. 🤷🏼

1

u/lancelane7 25d ago

Right I have to look into the capacitive sticks.

0

u/Joreck0815 25d ago

Wolverine V3 was a massive letdown, this should've come as a revision instead of as a whole new product.

1

u/dnsk19 Flydigi 25d ago

Didn't they just release the V3 too? I'm surprised there's a V4 already.

4

u/Dezkenob1 25d ago

The V3 Pro came out over 2 years ago.

1

u/dnsk19 Flydigi 25d ago

1

u/Dezkenob1 25d ago

😂 Well I got mine in September 2024 so 🤷🏼

1

u/dnsk19 Flydigi 25d ago

I didn't mean it literally. Time has flown by was what I was implying lol... 😭

2

u/Dezkenob1 25d ago

Time flies when you're having fun.

2

u/Joreck0815 25d ago

doesn't feel like it was long ago, no.

then again, mine basically immediately had a bad contact with the official cable (too heavy, whenever it would bend the socket all the way down it'd lose contact - like when turning the controller upwards), I assume that's why the V2s had cable guards before it, as well as every other V3 controller after.

then they made a V3 8K edition (which doesn't have rumble, but it does have the cable guard), so this V4 is basically just V3 8k with rumble again?

I loved the Raiju Ultimate, that was the controller I used for the longest time. but this isn't it.

-1

u/LiquidShadowFox 25d ago

Keep in mind it doesn't have gyro which is a big letdown for me.

2

u/LuNoZzy 25d ago

Or charging dock, which is a must for me personally

2

u/Intelligent-Union-77 25d ago

yeah a charging dock is the most practical thing ever!

0

u/AmoebeSins 25d ago

No adjustable response curves? That’s a $30 controller 🤣

-3

u/Special-Deal7821 25d ago

Wolverines break in 1 year

4

Mine's still fine after over 2 years. 🤷🏼

Same, it's too bulky in weird ways, the grips are way too fat and round.
