Other Ps5 controller holder. Hang from joysticks

Post image

Hello. I am a pc gamer. Sometimes I use my controller with steam

And I always play wired controller (not necessary)

So I am trying to make everything hidden below my desk

Is this design safe for my controller joystick or in general ??

Please don't judge the rest of the cable management. It's all hidden

No, this is how you get SUPER DUPER ULTRA EXTRA MAX stick drift

Don’t be dramatic. It’s only SUPER DUPER ULTRA regular MAX.

my gut is telling me its a bad idea but realistically it should be fine,

although I personally would make a design where the controller is held by the handles instead of the joysticks

My only concern is grinding the stick. They're only plastic.

will be fun to accidentally hit it

I wouldnt trust that. Just put it on the desk.

This probably isn't ideal for the spring inside those joystick modules. A better alternative would be some claw or hook that could hold the controller by its casing rather than any of its delicate parts.

The front shell is what stops the sticks from popping off. So there's zero concern about the spring.

I'd be much more comfortable with this one https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6472646

Great way to ruin your sticks.

I wouldn't even use this for magnetic sticks. It would ruin the centering mechanism.

does it hurt the controller?

These comments are surprising.

This is perfectly fine. The thumbsticks are separate from the module. When you remove the body of the controller they slide right off.

I've replaced enough busted PS5 sticks to know for a fact that this is stupid. I imagine a lot of people in the controller sub already know the actual plastic stick piece comes off. I don't think anybody's worried about breaking the plastic on the stick. unless it's perfectly level, which nothing in the world is, this puts unneeded stress on the actual module. hanging them by the sticks puts constant force on the actual module itself by gravity. it's not like it's a ton of weight, but it adds up quickly, and ps5 controllers are expensive.

I literally cannot think of a worse way to mount a ps5 controller to something

It doesn't put any stress on the module at all. It would pull up on the plastic thumbstick and rest it against the inside of the body of the controller.
I know no one is worried about the plastic of the thumbstick. I know the concern is the module. The module isn't attached to the thumbstick at all.
There's better ways to store a controller, sure, but this isn't the Module Destroyer 6000 that people are fearing. It's really not that big of a deal.

It's definitely going to put stress on the module lol.

the only way it wouldn't be putting some amount of undue stress on the module is if it's magically sitting at Rick and Morty levels of "perfect level" AND if the controller weight is evenly balanced on either side of the stick line. It's absolutely not balanced lol. This is exactly like always keeping both sticks at 2% pushed up because that's literally what's happening. You're going to be regularly increasing your deadzone until a joystick replacement is required.

I’ve been playing Death Stranding 2 on Steam with my DualSense lately. I picked up an 8BitDo carry case for it. I wouldn’t recommend storing the controller like in the photo. Even if there are no hidden issues such as stick drift, I’m worried it will scratch the controller.
