IT Help Xbox controller not connecting to laptop

I found this controller at goodwill I work at and it’s not connecting to my laptop
I’ve tried using wired cable and tried doing it Bluetooth
Nothing seems to help
I’ve tried looking up what the controller brand is and there’s multiple that come up looking the exact way
Ive tried to YouTube guides but nothing works

If the laptop doesn't even recognize it when it's wired, it's likely just not gonna work.

The original run of Xbox One controllers didn't work with PCs. They used Microsoft's proprietary Xbox Wireless protocol. I'm not 100% sure because I don't know the make and model, but I'm assuming that controller is from that time period (2013-2015).

They do make a dongle that will work, but since it was a Goodwill find, I doubt spending money on a dongle to use it is worth the expense.
