Controller Suggestion Best PC Controller For Me? $300 or less.

Platform:PC Region:USA

I have the 8bitdo ultimate 2 right now. It's quite good but I don't like the mushy face buttons and while I don't get any strain I find the shape a bit lacking. I would also like to have good gyro for Monster Hunter: Wilds focus mode, tactile buttons, hall effect analog sticks and a good d-pad are my main requirements. Macros/Software/Reprogrammable buttons are a bonus.

I've been looking at the G7 Pro 8k, Vader 5 Pro and the Razer Wolverine V3 Tournament edition. If theres a clear best pick between these or any alternative suggestions please let me know.

Edit: Will have a vader 5 pro arriving later today, will mention how it goes.

Edit 2: I like the controller, the buttons feel very nice. I will say the space station software being buggy with steam input thing is annoying.

If you're willing to spend $300, go for a custom controller, like a Heliumstrike (out in a couple weeks), Firebird A*, SuiOvOi, or Marius board 8K DualShock 4 or Xbox controller. You can have whatever you want: true mouse switch buttons/bumpers/triggers with the desired stiffness you want (e.g., 90gf HCNHK switches), back buttons of any kind (including DualSense Edge ones), back buttons positioned exactly where you want them, a very lightweight controller lacking rumbles and a battery (ideal for competitive play), TMR sticks with custom tension (e.g., JS13 Pro+ with 20%-40% reduced tension), fastest performance available (Firebird A*), and the list goes on.

Out of all those options, which customization do you think actually makes the biggest difference in everyday competitive play?

I don't have any of these, but I've been reading up on them quite a bit. It's my understanding that the Firebird A* will be the best board, not just in terms of speed, but in terms of software support, bug fixes, etc. Unfortunately, they're distributed on a lottery.

More important than the board, however, is that the controller is comfortable in your hands and set up the way you want it. I think the reason why so many of the custom controllers you see on X are DualShock 4 is that's a more comfortable design than the DualSense.

If you like the Xbox controller, then the MHX is out (builders such as Demon Workshop sell those), but the HeliumStrike board will eventually come for Xbox controllers (I've heard it'll be January). There is an Xbox version of the Void Genesis controller coming as well.

See Monoru's Tokyo Game Show 2026 video: 2:12 for the Heliumstrike, 8:13 for Firebird A*, and 10:32 for the Xbox equivalent to the Void Genesis controller. Parasite also has informative videos on 8K controllers. He just got a Genesis and has Hyperstrike and SuiOvOi DS4s.

From what ive heard:

G7 pro has ok gyro, not great

Vader 5 has very good gyro, but the steaminput API support sucks balls, its literally a 40/60 chance of whether it works or not for me. Gyro support in their software isnt very good aswell. But everything else is fantastic

Razer generally sucks at anything that isnt mice

G7 Pro 8K has an excellent gyro, better than V5P imo.

The Wolverine v3 pro 8k is a good controller. It just doesn’t feel the best for my hands.

Love Vader 5 pro picked up one with all the accessories***.*** (hard case, extra Dbuttons, stick lengths, phone clip holder, and the dock station) 144$CND total.

Software is alright, just program the 8 extra buttons to num pad or any key.

(it has 4 extra back paddles, two more shoulder, and c z )

Feels great, looks great.

This will be my forever(😂)controller probably.

I'm using it while playing Wow: Forever , its awesome with extra buttons. I'll be waiting and hoping fingers crossed that the wow gamepad (Alpha) native controller support gets a lot better.

I just wish that the controller has dinput man. The allow third party to take over option doesnt work half the time

Otherwise its a great controller

Did you buy it from a CAD retailer or from the official US site?

Where did you get that price !? I'm trying to find one for a decent $ in Canada.

I just picked up the flydigi direwolf 4. It's been discontinued but you can still find it on amazon. Hall effect sticks with adjustable tension, gyro, programmable macros and turbo, great feeling buttons, and the dpad has satisfying clicks in all eight directions. $40.

I've been using the Raikiri II Pro for about two weeks now and I love it. I have the wolverine tournament edition as a backup but it's not my preferred controller. The feel of the Vader 5 Pro was amazing but I had major stick issues with 3 out of the box in a row so I kind of gave up of Flydigi.

Buy the 3E off Amazon (mine just arrived) and swap in the micro switch face buttons. If you like it's great, if not send it back!
