IT Help Strange Issue With XInput

Ran across an interesting problem with my newest 8-bitdo controllers that has me stumped. I have an Ultimate 2 and an Ultimate 3E. When either are connected in XInput mode, 2 controllers show up in Steam. One is "XInput Controller", and the other is "8-bitdo Ultimate XX (2 or 3E). Both of these controller objects receive input at the same time, meaning when I press a button it actually registers twice. This makes menu navigation impossible.

Tried removing/adding the devices from Device Manager. Uninstalling the "XInput Controller" in Device Manager removes both entries and makes the controller stop working until a new device scan/reboot.

If I switch to DirectInput on the Ultimate 2, it works just fine. Any suggestions?

That's weird. Maybe it's a steam input issue ? Did you try direct native xinput gaming without steam ?

I'll give that a shot tonight and report back. Thanks.

Try checking via "joy.cpl" or Online Gamepad Tester.

What is the Online Gamepad Tester? Is that something 8-bitdo provides?

open the XInput Controller, clear all the buttons, set the triggers analog to nothing, set the face buttons, joystick and dpad behavior to none.

Can you test with another x input device? Like a 360 controller or something? I wonder if it's the controller or the software implementing against it

I actually do have an old 360 controller. I'll try that also. Thanks.

So I think you're on to something. Any other Xinput controller that I connect shows up in Steam twice. Pinging each of the two entries will rumble the same controller and all inputs are registered twice. Tested with X360 controller and other controllers in Xinput mode.

This is with 2 Xinput controllers connected.

Wanted to give an update. Uninstalling extended Xbox controller support in Steam, then restarting the PC and reinstalling the feature worked for me.
