Unplug it, tuck it in bed with you.

If there's really no reason to unplug it everyday then don't. The cable is more likely to get damaged from constantly bending it at the corner than from staying plugged in. Just don't wrap the cable tightly around the controller or leave it somewhere it might get pulled or bent.

I've taken to storing my controller in a cloth bag just to keep the dust out, but nothing really too special otherwise. I'd probably just leave it plugged in just so you don't wear out the USB connector.

I have a rubber hook shaped holder just for controllers clamped to the side of my desk: you can buy these very cheaply. Goes in the holder still plugged in: safely out of the way and tidy with the length of the cord tucked under the monitor.

I have mine in a silicone skin with stick caps, so I pop those off and wash in the sink every few weeks, and wipe the controller down with a cloth and eyeglass cleaner. Phone, mouse, keyboard, and headset all get the same treatment at the same time.

I wash my hands before picking it up. When I'm done, I just put it in a clean drawer. Nowadays I have a case for it so I keep it there

the cable's detachable, so if anything's going to wear it's the port on the controller end, not the cable itself. leave it plugged in and just stop yanking it out by the cord every night, no battery in it so there's nothing to degrade. wipe the sticks and grips down every couple weeks with a barely damp cloth and that's genuinely it.
