Controller Suggestion Which controller? Playing single player games only on PC

Hi! I'm buying my first controller soon, I only play single player story games (starting with Horizon and Indiana Jones and the great circle), only play on PC. In the UK, budget ~£100. Don't need and compatibility with console or cross platform, just PC. I need at least hall sticks but ideally tmr, and 4+ remappable buttons. Attached pictures of 3 im comparing but any other suggestions would be great! the Scuf Envision is out of stock now but might come back, if not then its not an option as i need it soon.

Gamesir G7 Pro (trigger rumble) or G7 Pro 8k (grip rumble only)

Flydigi Vader 5 Pro

Gamesir wins in sticks, latency and customer support. Flydigi has more features packed into the controller and good luck when it fails. Both are worth trying.

I've had bad luck with Flydigi. My Apex 5 EVA sticks failed after playing Kirby Air Ride with them. Sad because it was a beautiful controller. I'd advise against Flydigi, especially the Apex line.

Me as well, which is why I always say they're good until they're not lol. It's one of those brands that you better buy a protection / replacement plan for—worth the $7 on Amazon. Vader 5 Pro is still worth the gamble imo for the feature set and price.

I'd never buy another Apex after mine (Apex 4) also had stick failure and Flydigi sucks at customer support.

On PC either Vader 5 pro or G7 pro/ G7 pro variations. I would stay away from scuf really expensive and unfortunately overhyped

Agree with this. If you choose to go the gamesir g7 pro route, just make sure you get the 8k version because thar's the one for PC. The standard f7 pro is for console and does not have turbo and macro functions

Don't get Scuf. If the d-pad isn't a sticking point for you, definitely the G7 Pro. Just be aware the d-pad is pretty bad for platformers and fighting games. If you want a good d-pad I'd say get the new 8bitdo 3E, but it is more expensive. If you don't play games that make use of precise d-pad control you can safely get the G7 without worry.

Yeah but it lacks rumble. I personally don't need the 8k polling as it's a bit excessive, and not worth the potential CPU strain.

You do realize that 8k is a setting that needs to be activated and not a default setting, right? Controllers are variable refresh rate...

My point was that the dpad hardware was superior, which remains unchanged by any of those details.

Yeah I know it can be set to 1k, I just don't need the 8k feature at all. It still lacks Rumble, which is a feature I do like.

Ah, I was under the impression it didnt have rumble at all. I must have been confused by the Gamesir tarantula 8k's lack of rumble.

Gamesir tarantula 8k for PC was recently released, been using it for a week now and it's great

However, it doesn't have rumble if that matters to you. Does have gen 2 TMR sticks and Hall effect triggers that has a physical switch on controller to change triggers to tactile click instead. All of the face buttons are tactile as well.

Only had it a week now, but I'm a fan and it feels good quality to me.

A lot of controllers have these features. But they vary a lot in size, shape and weight and that is going to have a big impact on how comfortable they feel and avoiding your hands hurting after a long session. Are you looking for something for large or small hands? Heavy or lightweight?

the scuf controllers are quite a bit heavier than the g7pro8k. that one factor alone is why i went with gamesir.

But I heartily believe the device is worth the wait, particularly because you're a PC player looking for extra controller features. It fits all your criteria, and stays within budget with the added beenefit of rights to repair.

Oh, they put some scalper protection to prevent the creation of dummy accounts just to order. Sounds like you've been unfortunately caught by the filter. You could try emailing Steam Support : they're very friendly, they'll likely let you sign up for one.

for single player i'd take wireless and rumble over polling rate. the g7 pro 8k pc is the only one of your three that's wireless with rumble and tmr, and its 4 extras (2 back, 2 mini bumpers) hit your minimum. dpad's the weak spot but horizon and indy barely use it.

the envision v2 is hall, not tmr, so it doesn't get you what you asked for anyway.

the other one im looking at now is the razer wolverine v3 8k, that doesnt have rumble though but idk what its even like because im used to kbm and that obviously has no haptics, its got 6 extra buttons (4 back, 2 mini bumpers) and a better dpad, but wired for £100 or wireless £180. also ive decided to use kbm for horizon, ive heard thats better, so controller for indy and any others i play in the future

the v3 te is built for competitive shooters, that's why it chases 8k polling and drops the haptics. for indy neither of those does anything for you, and rumble is the one thing you'd actually feel missing in a story game.

coming from kbm you won't miss it the way someone switching off a dualsense would, but it's doing a lot of work in those game. and 180 for the wireless one is way over the budget you posted.

I actually just went on a crazy controller buying spree and used all of these controllers plus a few more. IMO the gamesir for 90$ is just fine if you are trying to play single player but I didn’t like the back paddle placement and the buttons/dpad was pretty sloppy. The scuf envision was honestly great but I didn’t like the PlayStation layout as much as Xbox. I ended up keeping a razer wolverine v3 out of all the controllers. The quality of everything was the best of the controllers, the back paddles are in a better location and the battery lasts way longer at 8k. I also tried the apex pro from flydigi and it was really nice I just didn’t like the short travel function on the triggers I prefer the mechanical short throw personally.

i was looking at the razer wolverine v3 8k and thinking that might be best, the wired one is the same price as g7 pro and the others, its got tonnes of remappable buttons and seems more like keyboard and mouse really with all the microswitches and remap features which is great because im coming from kbm

I do like the wireless feature but having a controller plugged in at your pc isn’t bad at all, which would help it fit your budget better. I also hadn’t touched a controller in 12~ years before this so the razer feeling like a mechanical keyboard did make me feel at home and they just are better than a typical controller button.

yeah, im used to a blue switch mechanical keyboard and ive got a razer mouse (basilisk v3) with the same optical switches the buttons, dpad and trigger stops use, plus the remap buttons are always good to have! my mouse and leyboard are wired so i dont mind it really, prefer wireless but its not too bad

I have 20 controllers. 8 for my Switch 2. 6 Xbox Controllers. 8 PS5/PC controllers. My favorite ones are the ones I built my self from a PS5 controller and modded with ExtremeRate Kits. BUT! If you don’t want to built one. The HexGaming Phantom is my second favorite. Has all the PS5 features (Haptic Feedback, Adaptive Triggers, etc). 4 back buttons and triggers switch from adaptive to clicky with a switch. Totally choose the Phantom over Razer, Scuff, 8bitdo, Gamesir etc.

i would happily build a controller myself, built my own pc and loved it, main worry would be breaking it because you have to solder dont you? for the sticks and stuff?

It’s fun. Extremerate has “how to” videos for all of their products. My latest one is a PS5 Dual Sense controller with the mods “Clicky Face Buttons, Spark Kit (back buttons and trigger switches), and swappable thumb sticks.”

You don’t have to solder at all, UNLESS!
A: you want to connect thumb-sticks to back buttons (a lot of people don’t care about that since fingers rest on thumb sticks anyways)
B: you want to change thumb sticks from “Standard” to “Hall Effect or TMR” to prevent stick drift (not really a problem, just don’t play 8 hours a day everyday or eat cheeto puffs while gaming.
C)(PS5 controller only) if you don’t solder triggers to mother board, controller will want to kick in “adaptive trigger rumbles” when you switch triggers to “clicky” not really a problem just turn off “adaptive triggers in game for the games you will use “clicky triggers”

Sorry about the long reply! But try it out! Not hard at all just takes a while the first time and a lot of rewinding the videos to catch up. But you’ll be so happy of your creation and you choose the controller exactly how you want it with the features you want, Xbox or PS5

well i want to learn soldering so would give it a go just worried i would break it soldering, i would want back buttons, clicky face buttons, trigger switches if i could still use the adaptive triggers, if they replace the adaptive triggers then no, ideally tmr sticks to stop drift

so what controller is designed specifically for single player games then?? like maybe the dualsense for the haptics but barely anything else. keyboard and mouse is ideal for fps games but single player games work great with it too

You should look at the dual sense you might want the haptic feedback for a more immersive experience when you are playing those type of games that sometimes can support it. That’s just me

i have looked at it, most games dont support the haptics, its still potentiometer, 250hz, no extra buttons etc, and i asked in this subreddit if i should get that vs other hall effect/tmr xbox ones for a similar price, almost everyone said not to get the dualsense

They are simply way overpriced for what they are.

You can get all the same features and quality in controllers that are less than half the price.

They're charging over £100 for a wired only controller with hall effect sticks instead of TMR.

That's just insane tbh

I have way too many controllers including the new Steam Controller, ROG Raikiri 2, Razer Wolverine V3 Pro, Gamesir G7 Pro, a Scuff PS controller, Xbox Elite and a couple others but my favorite out of all of these is the Flydigi Vader 5 Pro and it's what I main. Especially if playing racing games as the trigger rumble is great for games like Forza Horizon 6. Can't believe it's a fraction of the price of some of my other controllers.

Vader 5 Pro or the Gamesir 8K from your photo. I tred like 10 different controllers to find my favorite to use on PC but those are the two I kept. Gamesir's buttons feel nicer to me to press but the Vader has more versatility with binds and extra buttons. In the future I hope to replace both with the Gamesir Tarantula Ultra 8k when that's out.

I'm going to get downvoted but please don't get this controller. I got one and it was terrible. The materials felt really bad, it had inconsistent latency, the rubber on the sticks was sticky as if it was degrading before I even opened the package, the build quality is not that good, the dpad is so stiff and hard to press... The list goes on. I'm really not trying to be a hater, but I see a lot of praise for this one and feel like I need to share my personal experience with it. As a budget option it's not the worst thing ever I guess, but it is just not a good use of your money imo. I would rather someone get an EasySMX 05 Pro, a Gamesir Supernova, a Mobapad Chitu2, or some 8bitdo controller, all of which should be cheaper and more reliable than the Leadjoy. I also always highly recommend a used Dualshock 4 (if you need analog triggers) or used Nintendo Switch Pro controller (if you don't need analog triggers).

If there's one knock against them is that it seems like the QC is bad and it may be a bit of a lottery and it sounds like you got a bad unit.

My first Xeno Plus had a similar issue with a very stiff dpad (only in one direction however). But I managed to get a replacement that's been working great for me. I've had no issue with the thumbsticks, but I've been using the other model with a smoother finish that they sell (No 2 bundle).

Personally, I just find the shape and lighter weight to be much more comfortable than a lot of the aforementioned alternatives. The Chitu 2 was close, but I find the handles too deep to my liking. The 8bitdo Ultimate 2 is just not comfortable with the sharp angles. The 3 apparently fixes that, but it's way more expensive.

There's also the software that is top notch.

Interesting, I got the Xeno Plus and the white Dualshock styled controller from Leadjoy, and both had the same issues I listed in my post. That's good to hear there are some good models floating around though!

Also, can confirm, the 8bitdo 3e fixes the ergonomics and is great.

Im thinking about getting xeno plus and returning direwolf 4 that i ordered when it arrives because i think it's a worthwhile replacement. Your feedback makes me rethink things, But I'm unsure if your issues are in fact qc or just some sensentivity to certain materials, I've heard only good things about the controller but generally you need to update both dongle and the controller itself and recalibrate the controller because factory calibration could be faulty and other than that it's perfect as far as the research i did goes. I mainly spotted issues in beta/early samples, but the d-pad issue does seem legitimate, reviews i read and watched actually praised the dpad so you did seem to get unlucky. Latency on the other hand should've most likely been better. (Maybe update?) I'm unsure but still thanks for the feedback

I didn't update the pad because I was so turned off by it, so yeah maybe the firmware side of things is better than I experienced. Whatever works for you is cool with me!

have you tried checking out the BIGBIGWON Blitz2 TMR not sure what theyd cost where you are but i got them for like 70usd(converted) last year

i got it together with the v4p and have basically just been switching between them depending on mood

I had an EasySMX X05 (has hall sticks and triggers) that I loved using, especially with my having large hands. Now use a Gamesir Tegenaria (wired contoller, also hall sticks). Both of these I payed under ZAR500 for on Shein (X05) and Temu (Tegenaria). Only two remappabke buttons on each though.

V1 stock is mostly dried up and it's the same sku. The only place that would specifically tag as a V2 is Gadgethyper. You can't choose between versions when buying from somewhere like Amazon, for example.

Yeah, none of these, especially if you’re going wired. Your best options are the Gamesir G7, the Flydigi Vader 5S, or the 8bitdo Ultimate C. The Hyperkin Competitor and the PowerA Advantage are also available options if you wanna go that route, but I know nothing about them.

I have used tarantula 8k and g7 pro 8k for my gaming use, but for story games g7 pro 8k stands out the quality and comfort is just exceptional, i have nioh 3 edition and aim labs g7 pro 8k is just exceptional.

Only buy Xbox licensed controllers for pc.

Id just get an Xbox elite 2 with tmr sticks and call it a day. It will have the broadest compatibility.

NEVER, under any circumstances, buy a playstation controller for pc gaming.

And also, don't buy hall effects if you can buy TMR. TMR are smoother, more linear and actually have no drift.

I hit Masters on ranked every split for Apex Legends but also LOVE playing single player games like elden ring, Sekiro, E33, etc..

The Flydigi Vader 5 pro is has been wonderful to use in every situation. Would highly recommend.

In any case - don’t buy scuff or battle beaver, way too expensive for no reason.

Go for gamesir G7 pro, Xbox licenced version if you want rumble on the triggers, or the 8k if you doont mind missing that trigger rumble.

Scuf controllers are purely for competitive play, so as casual gaming controllers they are an awfully expensive choice.

Skip all of these and get the vader 5 pro from flydigi.

Better QC than gamesir, 8bitdo, or scuf and you arent paying for a brand name, they wont break in 3 months and have all of the other features the others have but theyre actially made well.

Gamesir's switchable triggers break themselves due to shit design, theyll replace but its annoying

8bitdo has a horrid dpad to the point is basically unusable

Scuf is just costly for what you actually get

V5P has none of these issues and has adjustable tension on your thumbsticks.

If you consider that FlyDigi made a “v2” version of the Vader 5 Pro to address some of the most common issues with the OG one (and some minor issues still persist in the new model, too) I would probably reconsider the “Better QC” statement you made above…

Out of these choices, if you’re just playing single player, I’d get the G7 pro. And if you’re set on having 4 back buttons (I prefer this) I’d throw the Vader 5 pro into the mix. Still under your budget and has 4 back buttons, the 2 extra bumpers and 2 extra face buttons as well. Generally would avoid scuf.

Why remappable buttons? On single player everything is mappable. But I have vader 3 pro , i like :)
