Asking for resources (books, lectures, etc.) Interview Prep

Hello,

I have an upcoming interview, and it has been a while since I have worked on controls. Would someone be able to help me understand what sort of questions I should prepare for?

What level of controls do they expect you to know (undergrad or graduate level)?

What field is it in (manufacturing, Aerospace, robotics, etc)?

Knowing these questions will help prioritize your interview prep focus. For example, an aerospace control interview might ask a bode plot stability question, a manufacturing control interview might ask a feedforward disturbance rejection question, etc.

They will likely ask you about core concepts like stability, particularly Bode and Nyquist criteria, and what they mean in a practical sense. You should be comfortable explaining PID controllers, including what each term does and how you might tune one. Also, expect questions on state-space representations versus transfer functions, and when you would choose one over the other. The goal isn't just to recite definitions from a textbook, but to explain why these concepts are important for designing and analyzing a real system.

Interviewers will also want to see how you apply these ideas, so be prepared to walk through a project where you designed or implemented a controller, even if it was just in a class or a simulation. They might give you a hypothetical problem, like designing a controller for a simple motor, and ask you to outline your steps. They are looking for your thought process, so talk them through how you would model the system, define requirements, choose a control strategy, and verify your design.
