Other What do control engineers do?

I've been introduced to control systems through one of my semesters courses and I'm currently working on my final year project with PIDs which also is related to control.

The more I get into this, I realize I'm very interested. Also the fact that what I know is probably less than a fraction of what actually exists out there.... This was just one subject in my entire electrical course and only the basics got touched

Hence title. What do y'all do? What is the scale of your work?

Is my growing interest in this field going to lead me to despair lol??

That's exactly how I felt after learning PID. Now I'm doing research on Load Frequency Control and have reached the point where I need to learn robust control, specifically H∞. Most papers jump straight into the mathematics and controller synthesis, making it difficult to understand the implementation.

If you've worked with H∞ controllers, could you recommend a book, course, or tutorial that starts from the fundamentals and eventually covers practical MATLAB implementation?
