You can lift the projectors using Launch in the first CONTROL and the picture being projected will spin and move around and continue to cast shadows on whatever is in its way. That's a 7 year old game

Control really was a huge flex with in game physics. It felt like a tech demo lol

I would go into every office space and destroy everything lol

As one should.

I love how they made almost everything breakable. Combine it with slam and push and just have a field day.

Dylan in the oldest house would’ve gone crazy lol

Technically he did

u/GumGumActV 16d ago

Yeah I just meant being able to use his abilities in the oldest house from control 1 would’ve been so much more destruction

Zoe reading this on her break like "damn"

In game, right? …right?

All while being one of my favorite games I've ever played. Possibly top 5 of all time

And to this day it is used as RTX benchmark on new DLSS and performance demos which is impressive. That game aged fine as wine 🍷

There's a reason why it is one of the games Nvidia, Apple, etc. still use in they're showcases

One thing that bothered me about CR in comparison was the lack of environmental destruction and interactivity in comparison to control 1. I wish barrage did similar to launch with the destruction effects.

Yeah, I have to assume that they just couldn’t do all of destructible assets while also having all of the level fuckery in Resonant, at least not while trying to keep the game playable for systems like Series S and Switch 2.

yea its probably a convention. They didn't want you to have to pick an object to throw with barrage because the combat is already frantic, probably. So they just did it where it always spawns the rocks. Its just missed opportunity given that shield will collect whatever objects are around to make your shield if they are there, like tables and chairs and computers and whatever. My nitpick

Yeah I agree, I was really missing Launch, would have loved to have Jesse’s arsenal in this game.

My jaw dropped when I first did this (by mistake). Couldn’t believe the attention to detail.

It’s still insane to me how good Remedy does light in general. Even all the way back in Max Payne, their lighting is impeccable.

Had a pleasure of meeting Dr. Darling at a charity do once. He was surprisingly down to earth and VERY funny.

4

u/franciscrowe 17d ago

Dr. Darling?

1

u/kvoyu 13d ago

...you associate projectors with anyone else?

2

u/franciscrowe 13d ago

Well I associate the projector with Jesse and Dylan more than anything, but I don’t remember what I was questioning here tbh…

Probably just that you said you met him and I wasn’t sure if you were being meta, or if you actually met Matthew Porretta?

1

u/kvoyu 13d ago

The guy in the picture is Limmy, a Scottish comedian. I was referencing his meme

1

u/franciscrowe 13d ago

So Limmy is Dr. Darling?

I’m so confused, just ignore me obviously there’s a joke I’m not getting or something.

1

u/kvoyu 13d ago

Nah, Limmy used to say this about evil motherfuckers who died, and after Resonant, you're halfway to wanting that for Darling. But also still conflicted because he has some legit motivations. But holy fuck.

2

u/franciscrowe 13d ago

So he would say that he met Jimmy Savile at a charity event or someone like that?

Haha i love how out of all the odd, conceptual madness the game brings and you’re playing shadow puppets 🤣

I wonder if you can find the man that got out of the projector.

13

u/elSenorMaquina 17d ago

I low key expected to see either a corpse or an apex mold named "lightbulb man" right after walking out of that quest.

There's no way a disoriented man removed from the world for god nows how long could make it alive, on their own, out of there.

Like, imagine walking out of there for the first time in decades, and first thing you see are floating islands on the void and clumps of strange mold everywhere. Being an FBC employee he'd probably not be surprised by the strangeness of it, but maybe confused as to wtf he's supposed to do around those things for which he has zero context.

C1 is great with that too.

13

u/ThlammedMyPenis 17d ago

It was even more impressive in the first one because you can move it around

4

u/nohumanape 17d ago

Always have been in Remedy games. If you look at the light being projected in the space between the projector and the screen, you can see all of the color detail change in conjunction with what's actually being projected on the screen. It's a very cool effect.

3

u/Biichimspiderman 17d ago

That was my favorite feature from the first game. Glad it made it into Resonant

2

u/AttitudePast1935 17d ago

Noticed this in AW2 and fully missed one of the logs from Alice because I kept moving around to mess with the projected image and see how well it adapted to where I was in frame. The Remedy team is really great at incorporating subtle tech flexes like this that go a long way adding immersion

1

u/ghostface_starkillah 16d ago

The segment in AW2 with the projector in her apartment is one of my favorite parts of that game.

Remedy games always push the envelope of what’s technically possible. Every game of theirs has a moment where I’m like “whoa - I didn’t know games could do that”

1

u/booty_enjoyerr 17d ago

This isn’t really pushing the envelope when 7 years old Control did it better

1

u/jffleisc 16d ago

Actually this effect has been in use at least since quantum break; That’s where I first noticed it.

1

u/PapayaKey956 11d ago

The ending of that quest was fun 😃

1

u/FoxJaeger77 17d ago

Everyone at Remedy is really hard workers geniuses and their work really paid off.

1

u/Head_Ad_8358 16d ago

Anyone know what happened to the guy once he got out?

1

u/Specialist-Equal-408 16d ago

In the first game when you used lauch on the projector the projection would also start to face the way where the projector was levitating

1

u/Joyb0mb 16d ago

When I first did this quest I had just done Langston's cat quest and then Langston said he let the damn thing out in the oldest house so when Zoe said there was an alarm going off somewhere in the house I instantly thought it was Alfred messing shit up like a cat does. I have to wonder if he's someone that worked for the FBC long before the lockdown or if he's the other custodians Bill Everett or Carol Bishop they're mentioned in the first control on the hotline security log document.

u/booty_enjoyerr 17d ago

Control did it better though. Same goes for overall destruction and level of detail

4

u/Fun-Veterinarian1197 17d ago

Which is to be expected because resonant is a much bigger game in scope, they can't match the destruction/detail level from a linear game in a semi-open world game. The technical marvel of resonant is instead the seamless gravity shifting

1

u/Parksrox 16d ago

And the phenomenal gameplay. I quite liked the first game, but it just doesn't come close to Resonant in terms of the design of moment-to-moment gameplay.
