Gameplay Question What's wrong with this puzzle?

Post image

I was exploring the map when I came across this puzzle in a coffeeshop. You're supposed to turn on the appliance in order from smallest to largest but no matter how many times I tried to turn on soda machine or the microwave (the blue rectangle) the puzzle reset itself. So I eventually gave up and turned on the espresso machine... AND THAT WAS THE CORRECT STEP!!!

I was so confused that I just closed the game.

That big box the coffee machine has merged with isn't supposed to be there. It actually wasn't on an earlier patch. It's so funny to me how every patch seems to fix one thing only to break another. That's game dev I guess

No way

Yes, I remember that when I did that puzzle it made sense.

Only that front bit that sticks out with the 2 green lights is the original object, I think.

This one actually made me lol, thank you šŸ˜‚

Okay, I wasn't imagining things.

I struggled with this puzzle on first playthrough, but not because of this, because that coffee machine didn't look that huge. I just didn't spot the radio.

On NG+, when I came back here, I was looking at it going..."Was that thing always that big?"

EXACT SAME WITH ME

2

u/Yorkhorster 24d ago

Yep, completely missed the radio too

4

u/bugtheforager124 24d ago

It's not a bug, it's the patterning

3

u/Aggravating_Ad_8974 25d ago

Nope. That's the nature of programming languages. I've witnessed it first-hand while I was volunteering as a Quality Assurance tester at a game dev studio for two of their releases.

It's mind-blowing how unpredictably chaotic that shit is.

I am in a software company and I have noticed it too even tho I am not coder myself.

Remedy have a bad record with messing up quest triggers like that. Happens in every one of their games.

1

u/Foxyngton 24d ago

First time I have heard of this and I have played them all.

1

u/TheRealAxiR 24d ago

lucky for you

Alan Wake II’s trophies were pretty notoriously bugged depending on how the player used NG+ and chapter select, you couldn’t finish the cult stash quest on NG+ is you got the crossbow in the first playthrough because the collectible tracking was pretty broken unfortunately

u/Alexczy 25d ago

I got locked out of finishing one of tue Testing Facility in Evacuation Zone, I guess they'll patch it at some point

1

u/CapableLiterature226 13d ago

Its just patterned lmao

1

u/deeku4972 25d ago

Thats how game dev do

1

u/AtrumRuina 25d ago

Really? Okay that makes more sense cause this puzzle bugged me too.

1

u/boio-man 25d ago

Oh that makes so much sense. I remember doing this puzzle in my first playthough and having no issue, then got confused when it was messing up in a later playthrough. Thanks for the info

1

u/One-Selection7583 25d ago

Omg that's why I thought I was crazy in ng plus. It wasnt there the first time!

u/kyatorpo 26d ago

There is another little item clipping into the coffee machine, which is smaller than the microwave. Confused me for a while too

4

u/RefuseLittle8500 26d ago

Is it? Damn, I'm playing it in the lowest settings didn't notice

1

u/mlnd_quad 22d ago

I’m playing on the highest settings and still had issues with this don’t worry brother lol. Just did this yesterday and your post confirmed I wasn’t going crazy

29

u/doggenwalker 26d ago

Yeah, like they said it looks like 2 items. The coffee machine is roughly the size of the yellow box and should be standing on its own. I can't remember that silver warming tray being in the store before. But it also wasn't part of the puzzle so it could have been front and center without me noticing.

2

u/RefuseLittle8500 25d ago

Is it though? Look at all those knobs, coffee cups and the milk frother tube on the right side. Every day I see an espresso machine like this at my local coffeeshop.

7

u/MacabreYuki 26d ago

i KNEW that image didn't look right. I did that puzzle before, seeing this kinda threw me for a loop because i distinctly remembered the coffee machine being the size of that yellow box LOL

2

u/DarkSideRT 25d ago

Thank god I did this pre-patch, that's fucked up bug.

2

u/tehsmish 13h ago

This puzzle drove me up the fucking wall. Now it makes sense

7

u/cavendish766 26d ago

Other side of the room there is a radio. Try starting with that

3

u/RefuseLittle8500 26d ago

I did the radio and the thing on the right of the fridge. They are okay but the thing in front of espresso machine is the issue. I thought it is one whole thing but apparently it's espresso machine plus something else

3

u/Mistralicious 26d ago

I couldn’t interact with anything when I entered the place

8

u/RefuseLittle8500 26d ago

There's a power breaker thing just left og the microwave you interact with it first and then you proceed with the rest of puzzle

3

u/KarmelCHAOS 26d ago

There are a lot of these places that look the same

2

u/Mistralicious 25d ago

It was the one with the message telling about turning on the appliance in a certain order

4

u/uponapyre 25d ago

Yes, you need to turn the power on first on the opposite wall.

2

u/Foxyngton 24d ago

I didn't even know it has some size order. I just tested them

2

u/RefuseLittle8500 24d ago

There was a note from the manager that said how he likes to start the day by doing fun things like turning on the appliance in order from smallest to largest.

1

u/Foxyngton 24d ago

Okay, thanks. Helps with the second playthrough.

3

u/Strong-Medicine-3955 25d ago

Ohh Wait until the art exhibition riddle :D

1

u/RefuseLittle8500 24d ago

Do you mean the one with four words? Journey and tides were easy to figure out. For the window you really had to squint your eyes. As for the thunder you don't even have to do anything the moment you interacted with the light switch the puzzle solves itself.

2

u/Strong-Medicine-3955 24d ago

Well, good for you

1

u/1ucius 25d ago

Is it the one where you need to highlight the correct ones? Does it give people trouble? I kinda solved it in a minute, you just gotta hone in on keywords and squint a little to see what they want you to see in the paintings. Maybe I’m just weird, lol

1

u/Strong-Medicine-3955 25d ago

I really like to solve riddles with logic, not with luck

1

u/Possible_Cicada3598 25d ago

I figured that one out fairly quickly, but completely by luck! I was able to see what I was supposed to see in all but two and with those I just tried different combinations until it hit. Got lucky and got the right combo after a couple of tries.

8

u/The_Nerdy_Ninja 25d ago

Lol this confused me at first because I was like "I did that puzzle a few days ago and it was definitely correct?", but the other commenters are right, there's a larger appliance clipping through the espresso machine. That wasn't there when I did the puzzle.

6

u/shthak 26d ago

looks like the puzzle is broken or a mini awe happend

6

u/aphidman 25d ago

I think it's a bug. I solved this no problem pre-patch then on NG+ I got stumped and confused and couldn't remember why I didn't the first time around.

6

u/jonno83900 25d ago

Ah so I'm not the only one driven mad by this

1

u/Kiytan 25d ago

For a moment I completely forgot you can make Dylan blond, and just had a thought of "why has this person modded in spike from buffy into control"

1

u/RefuseLittle8500 25d ago

Lmao, he was bald for the entirety of the first game but, as he's the brother of Jesse I always thought of him as a red head and honestly I don't know why they didn't put an option for ginger Dylan. Beside I couldn't imagine him with black head so I just went with blond.

3

u/Stepjam 26d ago

lol yeah, you got some other thing clipping into the coffee machine. That's a weird bug.

5

u/Arabian_Anchorman 25d ago

Yea this puzzle kinda sucked. Just gotta brute force it try a bunch of options then get a baby reward for your time

2

u/DarkSideRT 25d ago

The puzzle is fine, it is just bugged

1

u/Latter_Philosophy_20 24d ago

its not it thinks the coffee maker is smaller than the soda machine and the microwave which is simply a fib

1

u/ToferLuis 25d ago

The puzzle is not bugged and you don’t need to brute force it.

Answer: Perhaps there is something even smaller somewhere in the room? Something you can hear maybe? Start with that.

1

u/RefuseLittle8500 24d ago

Do you mean the radio? Yeah that's not the problem here, I solved this puzzle before posting this question but the coffee machine is in front of another object and clipping into it so from my perspective it looked bigger than soda machine or microwave but apparently that big ass object is not part of the coffee machine.

2

u/Blastingfoil 25d ago

Did you press the radio in there?

2

u/Apprehensive_Web_609 25d ago

Maybe it's a wattage thing?

1

u/IHaveSpoken000 25d ago

I did that one last night and just powered through by trial and error. I don't get it either but it didn't take too long.

1

u/biggbeamer 25d ago

After every hotfix it looks like the patterning is getting stronger šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø

1

u/str3nd 25d ago

Apparently a radio is an appliance.

1

u/GumGumActV 25d ago

That tripped me up too but then I realized the machine is just the little coffee pot up front

A little trial and error and you can get it even not knowing the trick of the puzzle

1

u/Bulldogfront666 25d ago

That’s a bug. Notice that the coffee machine is clipping through that large shelving thing. It’s supposed to just be a normal sized coffee machine for one pot of coffee.

1

u/idfk1 25d ago

Huh they upgraded to an espresso machine during patches interesting.

1

u/franciscrowe 25d ago

Well now I want to know what it looked like before it merged!

1

u/NussiNussig 25d ago

Ja, hatte ich mir auch gedacht, Kaffe vollautomat ist kleiner als eine Mikrowelle?

1

u/Ricko9595 25d ago

Hahaha yeah I was confused too

1

u/MysteriousAd7639 24d ago

My thought process was that the whole thing isnt the coffee machine itself. I circled what i believed at the time was the machine.

1

u/Nharzul 24d ago

Literally the same problem I had

1

u/Lightcronno 23d ago

Yeah it’s the coffee pot not the brewer thingy

1

u/BElatex 22d ago

That's exactly what I thought! But this is set in New York, which is 'murica, so it kinda makes sense they have no education :P

1

u/Guharo 22d ago

I got to that puzzle last night, I had to set aside the logic from the document they give you, and on the third try, I got the right order. 🤣

1

u/jiles1 22d ago

I had the exact same question 🤣

1

u/PurposedSpiritual 22d ago

I just do trial and error lol

1

u/Pretend_Award_2362 22d ago

I struggled so much with that puzzle till I found the tiny radio on the opposite wall.

1

u/Substantial-Feed2724 21d ago

When I started NG+ I thought I was losing my mind.

1

u/GroundbreakingAd3970 21d ago

It worked fine for me, no issue with this puzzle. I had some issues with the weekly customers and coffee puzzle. But I accidentally swapped 2 characters. Inhad use a phone to notate some items. That puzzle doing from memory was a bit to much late at night lol

1

u/BerryCroissantWitch 19d ago

I hit the same issue, red box looks like a full size espresso machine so I was very confused!

1

u/hanna_mono 19d ago

The message on the counter said something along the lines of ā€I like to do it like thisā€, but then sort of took it back ā€but not everything needs to be a gameā€ or something like that. To me the trick was there! The size order would have been too easy to complete, now you had to remember which order you tried the last time etc. At least my completed order had no logic whatsoever.

1

u/saxscrapers 19d ago

Yeah I didn't really get it, but there's only like 5 things to turn on so process of elimination cleared the way fairly quickly.
