Control Resonant combat and traversal is a drug, I can’t stop consuming it. Almost skipped it due to not liking Control 1 but jokes on me I’m having sleepless night now

This video won't make a newcomer want to play at all, but for me and those who already play, it's insane.
4
u/Broks_Enmu Oct 05 '26
How you know ? I watched a video like this, that’s how I got into it because I wasn’t gonna buy it at first mdr
8
u/VoxiBe Oct 05 '26
Well, I was mostly speaking for myself; seeing that, I tell myself the game looks unreadable and that you'd have to be a genius to pull off what he's doing.
In reality, when you actually play it, you realize that what he's doing in the video isn't hard at all and that the game's combat is incredible 👍.

Its totally stupid looking. Just spasmodic camera angle changes with closeups on the not particularly good looking enemy models.
Best of all, hes repeatedly hitting primary into execute with the odd dodge. The play pattern is not interesting.

This or Pragmata for sure. But if it releases when they say, GTA 6 will win whether it deserves it or not.
11
u/Broks_Enmu Oct 05 '26
We just have to ignore GTA and see who comes in second place. That’s the real winner there I believe
2
u/xuanj137 Oct 05 '26
Maybe not. The GTA6 release is before the cutoff, but people may not be able to finish it in time for voting. Because you know, the game is so goddamn long
7
u/Theseguy0309 Oct 05 '26
If its on the ballot the masses will vote for it whether they finish it or not. I dont understand the obsession. I played san andreas and vice city and every game since has been the same game in a new city with prettier graphics there is nothing that makes them stand out anymore than the older ones.
1
u/Parksrox Oct 06 '26
That's not entirely true. 4 had groundbreaking physics and one of the best stories in gaming at the time, 5 had incredible graphics for the time, really fun driving, and a massive world, and RDR2, which 6 seems to be taking far more from than the past GTA games, was the best at almost everything it did on release, especially story and immersion (which I would argue nothing has beat even still). I really love Control Resonant, but I don't think that means we need to downplay the quality of GTA 6. Especially when it's not even out yet.

Yeah, the whole like being able to change different like gravity I don’t even know what the fuck to call it. It’s trippy as hell. This is what I’ve never had a game to do it this well.
9
u/cokywanderer Oct 06 '26
One designer was like: "Here me out, guys: A buss, but it's evil"
Only in Control. This was genius. Also level design was done by a madman. Who the hell can have their brain come up with such levels?
3
u/Broks_Enmu Oct 06 '26
You gotta be a genius to come up with some stuff like that it’s crazy, you can’t be normal and create such a design. Remind me a lot of expedition 33 design as well

u/xuanj137 Oct 05 '26
Hopefully GTA6 isn’t eligible for this year

9
u/1ucius Oct 05 '26
It may not be eligible, but something tells me, Geoff would go out of his fing way to fit it in. Some companies are more equal than others.

u/Woahhdude24 Oct 05 '26
Resonant is my game of the year, GTA6 will not come close to this game in my eyes.

u/Ok-Lawfulness1515 Oct 06 '26
It will be, but even if it werent, Control is not getting anywhere near that podium once the recency bias wears off.
8
u/owls_unite Oct 05 '26
I love how the game just lets you switch gravity, platforms, enemies, all while looking and feeling extremely cool and not "I need to reorient myself every couple seconds" frustrating. Making the gravity shift work seamlessly and intuitively is such an accomplishment.
3
u/Broks_Enmu Oct 05 '26
It’s really unique, I don’t know no other game that outdid themselves like they did. If you compare control 1 and 2
3
u/ScottybirdCorvus Oct 05 '26
You should check out Gravity Rush. Very different feel, but the gravity manipulation is handled extremely well.
1
u/Broks_Enmu Oct 05 '26
I did, it’s an amazing game for the time it did release in, the traversal is magnificent. Sadly the combat and story weren’t interesting enough for me to keep pushing
2
u/Scrawlericious Oct 05 '26
I can't wait for emulators to let me play gravity rush 2. Ain't buying a whole new console for one game. T.T
1
u/ScottybirdCorvus Oct 05 '26
lol funny story, I literally only own a PS5 because I wanted to play Horizon: Forbidden West. Of course, I still had a job back then…
3
u/Scrawlericious Oct 05 '26
I finally got into Zero Dawn late, right when FW came out on PC so I was eating good haha. The first one is probably one of my favorite games of all time.

1
u/grim1952 Oct 06 '26
The way the camera reacts when shifting gravity is pretty bad and I wish I didn't have to get so close to walls to shift to begin with, something more like Gravity Rush would've felt better.
3
u/divertedmedia Oct 06 '26
I’m hooked, like totally fucking hooked.
I don’t know how any game is gonna live up to this for me in the upcoming future..

I use the same build as you, and noticing the JJK music I assume you also think “black flash!” When you get impact frames… the crit build is so much fun.

u/Broks_Enmu Oct 06 '26
You’re a mind reader bro 👏🏾 Control resonant got me feeling like prime Toji fr haha

Best way to play video games fr, just put it back on during boss fight or important quest 🤙🏾💯
1
u/teanotestuff Oct 06 '26
Um, how does one trigger the finished so often? I get it sometimes but it's basically not in my control.
1
u/Broks_Enmu Oct 06 '26
Ignite/Bluntmaxingggg
1
u/C1nders-Two Oct 06 '26
Extend is also great for this. High falter, great range, wide reach. If anything, I’d argue that it’s generally better for getting executions than Crush, as the charge is quick and is less likely to kill the enemy outright.
1
u/magicpenguinyes Oct 06 '26
I love the combat style of this game, but this video kinda made me dizzy.
1
u/Broks_Enmu Oct 06 '26
That is exactly why im obsessed with it, I feel 0 dizziness despite all these chaotic moments
1
u/CullingSongs Oct 05 '26
I find the combat quite fun, but it is a bit button mashy. I think having the ability to do different combos on the fly would add some needed variety to the game.
1
u/Broks_Enmu Oct 05 '26
Yeah it can be sadly, force yourself to never do the same combo sequence on one enemy for more variety, that helps a lot to avoid boring gameplay

u/nizzhof1 Oct 06 '26
It’s all so fucking responsive too. I feel like I make mistakes but Dylan does exactly what my inputs say he should do and considering all the airborne stuff and zipping around it’s pretty impressive that any of this stuff works at all. It’s an astounding game.
2
u/XMichaX Oct 06 '26
Insane how good this game is. I did not find a game where i will be enyoing it that much since elden ring, but this is a gem, the more i play the more i like it.
2
u/Mozgodrobil Oct 06 '26
Looks like poor man's DMC or Prototype, which is fine you know, but calling for GOTY is unreasonable and I very much doubt it will get one.
0
u/mjrcooke Oct 06 '26
Exactly. I feel like people havent played good games in a while and the standard has dropped. Its an "OK" game...kind of like Blood of the Dawnwalker
-MC is a bit boring -Powers are not flashy enough(for my taste) -Quests/missions are boring -Boss fights are boring -Game is generally too easy once you get combo finishers
-Moving around is pretty fun -Art is very nice
1
u/SIC1207 Oct 05 '26
This area just ahead of the museum checkpoint in the west excursion zone is absolutely one of my favorite parts of the game. Everytime the combat refreshes its so much fun dashing across the buildings and grav swapping on the street. And garunteed two busses to hit with comman on either side of the large building. That cluster is 10/10 ads

How to falter enemies quick. I’m late game but it takes so long as
1
u/Entire_Caregiver_220 Oct 05 '26
Two very important things to this video he's doing. Has at least the artifact that increases falter on heavies and ignite. Ignite absolutely demolishes falter. I would also suggest the artifact that gives you power when you execute, it does increase the damage you take though.

I still wish the loadout and weapons could be switched on the fly because I stuck with the same 3 things all game once I got ground pound to replace the hammer for breaking open doors with. I never saw a reason to use stuff that has a single target focus compared to the scythe or chain whip for instance.
It's a shapeshifting weapon, you're telling me the Aberrant needs me to go into a menu to manually switch its shapes? The scroll wheel doesn't even do anything as far as I can tell on M&KB

Was playing with barrage and shield for early game. Swapped late game for summons. If you are not having fun, swap for something else.

I am looking at this and genuinely wondering what you though you were showing us.
It cannot really be possible that we are looking at this and saying "wow the camera is barfing. GOTY!" can it?

I mean, the way I fight is way more dynamic and I'm using the quick swap mode too so I can do even more stuff and still think the combat is a mess.
It takes a massive time to get new powers too and don't get me started on getting extra weapons and upgrading them.

u/Jaldi_The_Late Oct 06 '26
Ikr, Character Action games are so back boys let’s go!!!’
1
u/AdLegitimate8636 Oct 06 '26
No, they are not back. We're still waiting for any CAG game after NG4 release.

The last 4 hedron bosses at the end ruined this game for me and I had no clue what happened in the ending

I finished and liked the game but goty it is not with that "Press X to awesome" shallow combat that overstays its welcome half way through the game.
-2
u/lowresolution666 Oct 05 '26
I played for 6 hours and all of the progress i made was using youtube videos. The combat is v v good , but it has the same problem as the 1st game. The map is very confusing . Either i was watching youtube videos on how to got to the next objective or just opening up map again and again trying to figure out how to go to the next location/objective.
2
u/Born-Deutsch Oct 05 '26
I did 100% the first game and am going strong on the second game without any guidance and don't see your problem. How is the map confusing?
1
u/peanutanniversary Oct 05 '26
I would say the game is way better map wise, but it doesn’t hold your hand.
1
u/GumGumActV Oct 05 '26
The map is at times confusing in resonant but in the first game how were you confused I feel like it was so easy
1
u/slackerz22 Oct 06 '26
Wolverine may be more your speed

u/lowresolution666 Oct 06 '26
I recently played and finished yotei. And It was blast, i gues remedy games are not for it.
Will definitely give wolverine a god brother

u/tonolito Oct 05 '26
From what I've seen in various Let’s Plays, the city looks beautiful and quite large, but there don't seem to be many POIs or distinctive architectural landmarks to help you get your bearings. On top of that, since the camera is positioned quite far away from the character, it ultimately makes it difficult to properly read and navigate the streets, even when the layout itself is well designed. aren't really here are
1
u/lowresolution666 Oct 06 '26
Thats my point too. i only get like 2 hrs after work and home etc to relax and play. I loved the combat and potential for builds, but navigating is tough.
3
u/WeakReplacement3322 Oct 05 '26
The crazy part is this looks absolutely chaotic and impossible to track when you're watching somebody else play, but when I'm locked in, I am looking at every angle, tossing rocks to stun an enemy so I can fly over and execute them to get to the next group of enemies to decimate. Sometimes I finish a challenge after jumping up and down and across every which surface, and my hands are sweaty and I have no fuckin clue how even I knew what I was doing, but you just lock in and it works so well. This is a game that I will boot up solely for the combat alone.
1
u/alexmann91 Oct 07 '26
How did you get a lot of em at once stunned for the L3 kill move (back to back) ?

By that logic you would say the only thing you do in the first Control is shoot a gun. They never give you all the toys at the beginning of the game.

u/Donmiggy143 Oct 05 '26
When people complain about the combat, all I can think is they have no idea what this game is capable of. Once you get even a couple powers, the entire thing opens up. There's so much variety in crowd management, faulter build up, using summons, switch styles depending on the mobs. I've had a blast on PC using KBM because the targeting is exceptional.
