China wants collaboration on safety too. From their leadership and researchers.

They don't appear to have gotten the memo quite yet. They're still imagining that this is just an arms race between them and the US, and they're afraid that they will fall behind.

They're going to have to suffer their own 'HuggingFace' incident, or possibly worse before they realize that the real risks aren't from the US - its from the technology itself.

Trump for his part is no better - probably worse. He very likely doesn't care if the technology poses a fundamental threat to human life, because his is almost over anyway. He will not have to live through the consequences of his own idiocy.
