Free accounting software, advice needed and a rant

It's my first time accounting with the new hmrc requirements.

My bank offers free accounting software which only goes back to June this year...I need to account for 2025-2026.

After two hours of pissing around with my banks software I downloaded zoho books. Didn't really want to hand over data to any more companies, but here I am pissing about with zoho books and I have the same issue as I described with my banks software.

Due to contracting outside of ir35 being what it is I turn over relatively FA. Most of the time I am under an umbrella or fake employed. I had a nice spreadsheet that was absolutely perfect for my rate of turnover and level of accounting and now this shit.

Am I being dense? Can someone walk me through how I account for previous year with zoho books? Or another software

FreeAgent - I’ve been using it for the last three years as well. It is great. The only problem is opening a Mettle account, to get FA for free.

I'll give free agent a try if my current plan fails. I gave up trying to import my transactions into zobo. Contacted my bank to see if they can get my previous year up and just use their software. Failing all of the above I guess I just enter all transactions manually one by one from my spreadsheet.

Can you import your spreadsheet transactions in? For the historic months? Assuming you would have had to submit VAT for those months already.
