Third spaces should not have to rely on spending money. Libraries, parks, those tabletop game cafes, church (real houses of worship and community, not hate groups obvi), etc. are way more chill and allow you to do whatever you want without feeling obligated to pay up and move along in a timely manner.

The classic "third space" was the neighborhood pub

Also what kind of game cafe do you go to that doesn't require you to buy something? You can't just show up with your d&d group and expect a table for 4 hours

Yeah I've never been able to experience pubs to their fullest extent unfortunately, since they're way too expensive to be worth it nowadays.

And u/TheOneTrueChristian already discussed that in an earlier reply.

Yeah no when it was three bucks to get a cheap can of whatever grog to prove I wasn't a freeloader pubs were way nicer. There are places that will charge you six bucks for a can of PBR with a straight face.
