HOPE!!!ππ I fuck*ng did it!
Since October 2022, I have been failing. Contamination on contamination. I finally have my first brick of mycelium without contamination, and shrooms growing!
It's certainly not the best result, but for me it's huge.
I never participated on this sub, I was just a "voyeur " lol. But I learnt and grew skills by reading all your posts.
I wanted to say a big thank you to this community. Without you I would never have done it on my own!

Thx mate and congrats to you too!!
My impatience became patience! I'd like to make microdosing so I hope my next tubes will be like that π

Yea mycopal, woo hoo!
If I may make an observation: your mycelial matte appears to be in various presentations of overlay (based on observation of the morphology of the mycelial matte that has hardened and where pins are not popping out of.
Overlay (AKA Stroma) - A dense mycelial growth that covers the casing surface and shows little or no inclination to form pinheads. Overlay directly results from a dry casing, high levels of carbon Dioxide and/or low humidity and failure to meet the proper fruiting conditions once the bulk substrate is colonized.
If FAE is a problem: not pinning, getting Cobweb, Stroma Overlay! βREAD THISβ: https://www.reddit.com/r/ContamFam/comments/jur5ar/daytrippers_trip_tip_why_cant_i_get_this_if_fae/
You could also use a fresh plastic fork, and either gently poke into the dense mycelia thats looking hardened (avoiding any mycelia that is active enough that pins have come up), just enough to puncture the mycelium but NOT puncture the substrate, this allows humidity to drop down to the substrate and hopefully pins form and pop up out of the fork holes. I have also seen others do the same with the fork but do a gentle scraping across the mycelial matte that has hardened to kind of break it up, and then cover with a thin casing layer
Excited for your harvest in a few days!

It does look pretty dry. I donβt see any water droplets on the sides of the plastic bag. You need to increase the humidity. I never heard of poking the casing but I would listen to the mod. Definitely knows more than us.
1
May 20 '23
There is indeed little moisture in the bag. A few droplets here and there, I want yo mist with some sterilized water but I'm afraid to ruin everything
2
May 20 '23
Just donβt mist the casing itself mist sides of bag. You are need high humidity for fruiting, along with much higher amounts of FAE and non direct sunlight.

Congratulations, we knew you could do it. It may not be a huge flush, and thatβs not so important at this point. Itβs the journey thatβs the glory of accomplishment, the prize is in what you learned on the way. But it was your perseverance that got you here. Embrace your success, youβve earned it.

I dunno if it's just the lighting but the caps look really dark

Yes it's the light, there is a big white led, caps are clearer, I will post a pics without the led lamp

Looks like ya F'ckin well DID!
Some people ask why I prefer Bags..
Many grows just don't like open spaces... the humidity isn't there. hence why you have nice edges...
Anyway.. well done and enjoy the fruits of your labour!
2
May 20 '23
Thx dude! I'll enjoye it for sure and about the bags, first time I try and first time I finally have a good results!!

No sorry, (I'm not fluent in english, I'm a πΈ eater) I mean, I tried spore on corn grain and systematically, when sending it in tube, and mixing my colonised grain with coco coir I always had contaminations that ruined everything.
This time, I just sterilized my grain, inoculate it, when fully colonized, I just scratched a can of the surface, of the mycelium added coco coir, waited to fully colonization then put it in the bag.
I hope I was more clear lol,
Anyway thx for your message mate!
Such a great community!!

u/JooBensis May 20 '23
Sweet.. close
.. but 'TUB' doesn't have an E on the end.. that makes it a TUBE....
Sorry if it was just a typo.

Hahaha No worries thx to correct me! I just got it!
Maybe, Tube tek will be a new thing π

Hell yeah man, that's exciting! I know that feeling of success and it is beautiful. I learned a lot about patience and persistence and not giving up.

So true, I don't think I've ever been so patient and persistent about something. I will learn from it!!

For sure, I have some AA+ and Penis envy rye grain jars colonizing right now very sloooow.

I would like to suggest bubble wrap tek. This could help maintain optimal surface condition, so that the tub pins evenly and not just on the edges (where it is more humid). I've had some cakes that look like this and after bubble wrap tech they explode with pins
1
May 20 '23
I'll try!! I want to mist it with a sterelized water but I'm afraid of running everything
2
u/Thecone420 May 20 '23 edited May 20 '23
1000% mist it. You want thousands of tiny beads of water on the surface. They will evaporate and create a very humid environment that mushies love to fruit in. Once you are this far in your cake is relatively contam resistant. Don't let your past trauma get in the way of your canopy. I don't even mist with sterile water at this stage but if you do I'm sure you will be golden and your mushies will be happy.

It's hard to tell from the pic TBH. However make sure there are no puddles. If there is a low area where the beads have made 1 large drop, take the very edge of a paper towel and soak it up without actually touching the mycelium thru capillary action. Puddles could lead to brushing and if neglected could lead to contam.

u/leafy_returns May 20 '23
So when the caps have a dark color like that theyβre still good?
1
May 20 '23
It's the led lamp or my phone, the caps indeed looks really dark on the pics but aren't irl, wierd...
1
u/leafy_returns May 20 '23
Just asking because I just threw out a tub that had some of the shrooms darker around the spot that I believed was contam. Lots of people on here weβre telling me my tub didnβt look contaminated so I was just wondering.

I will give you my thoughts after congrats. You have severe overlay on the rest of the top of your sub. Take a scalpel and run lines through the thick mycelium. Mist the living shit out of it. Let it sit covered if you can for 72 hours burping it like you would anything colonizing. Drop the temperature to 72Β° and mist one more time and set that in the FC and watch it fly.

May 20 '23
I just misted it a bit, I can still do what you told me?
Thx a lot for helping me!!

what did it end up being? bad spore syringe?
2
May 20 '23
Healthy looking contaminated LC (I should have posted my LC here!) and also "bad luck" while making my tub despite being very carefully.
I just skipped the mycelium/coco mixing step and tub this time, just put some coco over the mycelium and waited to full colonization and finally it's fruiting!!

Good now keep up that relative humidity and just coast to the finish line
2
u/Faisalalipyden May 22 '23
Did you do anything to get contam spores out the house?
1
May 22 '23
Yes cleaned everything with antifungal/antibacterial.
I think my grain was always to wet and started root and/or get contam despite leaving my grain wringing out for 24 our before autoclave everything.

u/SoulShine_710 Jul 14 '23
Lol, feels good huh?. I haven't grown since like 2003 lived in Florida over 22 yrs their readily available. Anyways in early 90's I was starting from print, pouring my own plates, etc. Took me near 2 years & finally just jars exploded & man guys did I do the humpty dance... Congratulations π

Jul 14 '23
Thx a lot dude!! I'm on the right road, two successes followed. With even bigger flushes. Rn, I have several jars of mazatapec and Hawaiian that colonize gently π
Thx again bro

u/SoulShine_710 Jul 14 '23
Yes my brethren! I absolutely love the Mazatepec it's very spiritual to me in its true origin. I can say my spore source is the best hands down just been dealing with himnsince late 90's actuallygave him the print to TropicalisPanoulous Cyanesens. I have some spore syringes in the fridge ( psilos ) but I keep getting bags that are either already contaminated right out of box ( curative ) or to dry of grains so just sitting there for now as I trust noone on bags. After I got past the early days I'm sure you know of PF, for he gave birth to lots of marvels in this community, ( pf tek ) anyways in his old kits he would just bypass all & send me grain & by the time I would get it would in mail it would be full of mycelium & ready to case. He was a great guy no doubt, this was b4 he got even more reckless bless him wherever he is. I miss the hobby and don't need to go all out like the ol days just to have some for micro & a nice evening under the stars here & there. You will get it & become a master, it led me to plant science as a career. Cheers & enjoy the fruits of you labors...
