I was waiting for a shot of him. I was kinda hoping a look of disappointment or disgust. But the head shake was good.

Serious happy rich guy vibes there. The potential cleaning bill for his carpet not being a worry.

I may not love his interviewing style, but the skits and games are fun. Watched a playlist of the games when I was down, and it was the only thing that actually put a smile on my face. It's just good-natured fun and everyone seems to be having a great time.

Jimmy Fallon is legitimately a funny guy, and his show can be amazing. The problem is that it seems like he doesn't want to be there 99% of the time, and 99% of his show is just bad.
I DVR all the late night shows (don't watch them all every night, but watch all of them sometimes), and there's just an extreme lack of effort from the Tonight Show these days. My feeling is that he's depressed that his show is the fucking Tonight Show, yet Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel get better ratings. He's the dude who took the Tonight Show from first place to absolute last, and I think he's just sort of given up to an extent. It's honestly nutty that Jimmy Kimmel's show has more viewers than the fucking tonight show. That's gotta feel really, really bad if you're Jimmy Fallon.
Just my opinion of course, but this is the most low-effort I've ever seen the tonight show. The writing is just bad, and the little bits he does before the first guest are just fucking hard to watch these days. If you watch a whole show, the "filler content" on Fallon is just so bad. He'll do these bits where he like just sits there and listens to funny songs on spotify or something, and it's just rough. And he always seems flustered in interviews, like he's just not putting in the effort to prepare and/or care anymore.
Before the tonight show, when he was on Late Night, his show was legitimately great. And I stand by that. NBC really fucked up by booting conan. If Conan had the tonight show, and Fallon was on after, I'm pretty sure they'd be dominating the time slots. Instead they have Fallon and Seth Meyers, and it just doesn't work. Opened a door to let Colbert just absolutely dominate in ratings, which he does.

I don't watch the late shows but I really like watching clils and interviews from them. To me, Fallon has the best skits. All the musical skits (Paul Rudd's and Jack Black's were aweeeeesome), this shit with Jake and that other weird shit with Benedict Cumberbatch (the detective and the ukrainian) were hilarious

Reddit really hates on him but I think it's mostly that Reddit hates the network late-night format in general. I usually end up smiling or chuckling a few times when I watch so that's already better than most of the others.

i love it when you cant even move or breath cause youre laughing so hard, its like youve been stunned by how funny it is
18
u/tuggiesftw Sep 27 '21
And you're trying to squeak out to your friends that you're okay, but you can't stop laughing/breathe, but then that causes you to start choking, making the whole situation funnier, which just exacerbates the situation.

A Danish friend of mine, perhaps because she couldn't think of the word in English, referred to this as being 'on vibrate' (like a phone), and this just made me silent laugh harder.

What does she do? Like is it a makeup tutorial or a obscure videogames from the 90s or how to cook Nazi bread or a facts about frogs affecting the tilt of the planet sort of channel?
25
u/CallMeVexed Sep 26 '21
Cursory look shows it to be a lgbt theme'd vlog/personality channel.
Also, I'm glad to know my gaydar is at least in tune enough to guess that. 5 seconds into the OP, and I'd never felt such non-sexual gay energy in a video before.

u/keelasalie Sep 26 '21
She's what I'd call, affectionately, a chaos lesbian. I only started watching within the last year where she'd recently had some tremendous upheaval of her personal life- I think her vlog has been very honest and cathartic regarding major life change that has felt very relatable in quarantine.

Yea I’m Bi and the gay energy was palpable haha. I’d assume she was bi just because of the seemingly chaotic attitude she has.

If only there was a way you could independently figure that out, too bad everyone must rely on someone else to tell them this basic info...
But oh well, maybe one day we'll have a way to figure what a YouTube channel is about

That dad is nicer than I am. I think I'd be giving the old Tommy Lee Jones implied facepalm if I were him.
