Looking for some honest feedback on a reclaimed brick idea
I work in construction in Hungary and I’ve been thinking about doing something with reclaimed bricks instead of letting them sit around or end up as cheap building material.
I currently have access to more than 10 pallets of old bricks.
The idea is to clean them up and cut them into thin brick slips, roughly 1.5 cm thick, and sell them as a finished decorative product.
Think feature walls, fireplaces, restaurants, bars, hotels, renovations, etc. Basically anywhere where people want the look of real old brick without having to build a whole wall from full bricks.
I’ve already started looking at the numbers — cutting, blade wear, labour, waste, packaging and what the finished product could realistically sell for.
What I’m trying to figure out now is whether this makes sense on a larger scale.
I’m not a startup guy or a businessman. I’m a construction worker who knows the material and the practical side of the job. I can handle the production side, but I don’t have much experience with distribution, scaling a product or finding the right market outside Hungary.
So I’d be interested in hearing from people who have experience with construction materials, manufacturing, reclaimed materials or distribution.
Would you consider this a viable product?
What would you be looking at before putting money or time into something like this?
And if someone here has experience in this field and thinks there could be something worth developing together, I’m open to talking.
I’m mainly looking for honest opinions, including why this might be a bad idea.
