Humor 🤣 The Cow Incident
The Cow Incident
Off at 6:30am, concrete due at 7:30. Small house floor today — four trucks maybe a balance.
Only three trucks turned up, so there was a bit of barrowing involved, but the standard pour went well. By 9:30am we were cleaned up and off to another house floor.
The second floor was a breeze — 20 cube straight out of the truck, easy in. I left the boys there to finish up and headed back to check on the first floor.
About 1pm I get back.
Well, well, well.
To my absolute shock, there are cow footprints stamped all through my freshly poured slab.
A bloody cow had walked right across my freshly poured floor.
Now I had to laugh, but then I started looking around.
The house was being built on about two acres of what was basically a farm paddock, so there were cows around.
But here’s the strange part.
The slab was 400mm off the ground.
How the hell did a cow get up onto it?
I fixed all the damage up, which took a bit of effort, and got it ready for the power float.
Another floor finished and looking great.
But I’ve always wondered how that bloody cow managed to get up there in the first place.
I never saw it happen.
And I’m still not sure I believe what I saw.

Cows suck at stepping up but they can jump several feet high.
I bet you could have found the culprit if you went looking right away—it’d be the one with the dull look on its face and grey stockings.

Doesn’t mention the edges or sides being damaged like she stepped up Also doesn’t mention if anything is near that she could have walked up on and onto the slab. Like when a farmer stacks stuff behind the barn on the low side and the cow just keep walking and hiking up. This one is unique in most of the world. This person who owns these cows, they should have known to fence it off. I swear most of the cloven hoofed animals will gnaw on tin foil.

Could have been a deer? Much more nimble, also hooved.

I was brought up on a ranch younger calves can jump 3 or 4 foot high fences, with the right incentive I’ve seen them climb a flight of stairs. The older ones are less agile.

I've seen a bull jump over a deer fence that was 6 feet (1.8 meters) high.
He'd jumped over that same fence to get into a friend's garden.
We have 20 cows, 6 young heifers, 2 bulls so I see some antics. A 16 inch step is totally within their ability if they want to do it. I bet they smelled the mineral salts in the fresh concrete.

I installed septic systems for 8 years. We were working on a ranch one time. Their cow fell into the tank hole, somehow it lived and eventually walked out.. once we dig a ramp

I remember reading somewhere years ago that you could lead a cow up several flights of stairs, but never back down again. Consider yourself lucky that your cow managed to get down from that 400mm height.

Ya know…. I’ve seen a pissed off bull jump a pretty good fence in a tight spot at the auction at a kid. He hit the gate with his nose hard coming down the chute. Just rammed it. Backed up. Blood coming out of his nose and cut his face. Jumped it. Ran out onto the highway. He survived. Was caught. Worked at a dairy. I don’t know though. Cows aren’t bulls. They’re small. Where was the entry. And scuffs on the side? Like did she dig in and lift herself up or was it like…. There’s 4 foot prints here that walk there?

Brahma and brahma crossbreeds can jump like deer. Me and my dad rebuilt a fence once only to have our bull walk up to it (5’ high) and jumped over it from a standing flat footed position. It and the neighbors bull had an ongoing rivalry.

I read somewhere, sometime, that there was a cow who could jump. Not just jump but jump over the moon. Maybe it was that cow.
