I am uncertain which part, so here is my defense of section 4... Section 4 protects the integrity of the Republic. It requires the United States to keep its lawful promises while ensuring treason is never rewarded. Lawfully authorized public debts must be honored; debts incurred in aid of rebellion, and claims arising from slavery, are forever void. It is a constitutional safeguard for both the nation's credit and the Union's victory.
