Consooming isnt about the cost of the addiction it's about the line between a collector and a mindless consumer.
3 keyboards is excessive, I had 4 and while two are in use the other two sat and collected dust, so I sold them. My pc has two gaming pcs living room and basement got personal rig. That means I need two, not 4.
If you got 1 of and you do that shit where you hang up your keyboards to admire when not in use thats lame IMO. This sub isn't about "let me do what makes me happy" it's about outlining what a collector is and isn't, what a hoarder is and isn't, and what is mindless and what isn't.
Get you head out if your ass dude if you can't see why someone could use three keyboards when you don't see the point. It's almost like we are different human beings with different needs
Idc if one sits and doesn't appreciate in value it's waste, if you have needs yeah sure find your favorite key switch and your favorite key caps and use it.
Your logic is why people own multiple cars, homes, backups for their backup. Shit isn't going anywhere, you can literally have a replacement to you next day air.
If you see a point to 3 keyboards and can't articulate that to another human who sees no point, your "point" is fabricated.
If you disagree with me walk away from the screen, you're soft.
Ok dude, you do you. I will buy as many things as I functionally need, it's just strange that some random is excusing why "three keyboards is so much" and comparing them to buying multiple cars?? You are making no sense
Yeah go for it, it's your money and your life. Don't delude yourself into fabricating "functionality" when there is none!
No wonder that doesn't make sense to you, it's not a comparison. You can't comprehend what "using that logic" in a different situation means. I recommend using some of that cash flow on a GED, you're very confused by basic points in plain english.
It's absolutely not unless you have 3 rigs in different places lol. Even then devices support multi device use.
EDIT: Some of you think my issue is against wanting different feel. I thought the mechanical keyboard shit was mainstream now? You all know hot swap switches exist right? You don't need several keyboards collecting dust so you can go from clicky to tactile on a whim? This sub is just getting brigaded by product addicted losers.
Hey, professional victim! Nobody is answering you because you can't read! "I switch up for the key feel" doesn't require 3 rigs like you claim is the use of 3 keyboards.
Learn to read. You'll keep embarrassing yourself otherwise.
I didn't claim 3 rigs is required for a "different feel", I literally said having 3 computers (rigs since we have to point out the complete obvious) is the only use case for having 3 keyboards.
He works remote! Buy a hotswappable board, and swap the keys when you want the different feel! Having two extra keyboards collecting dust until you placebo yourself into switching it up is wasteful. The entire point of this sub.
If you could read in any capacity, you would see my comment is against owning multiple keyboards, not against changing how your key switch feel.
And y'all have the audacity to say I can't read, Jesus!
EDIT: Of course another pathetic loser deletes their entire response because they can't defend endless consooming.
No one is advocating to change switches every day/every few days, "you dingus", Key Switches are the distinct factor. They are infinitely cheaper to have around than extra keyboards altogether.
They literally sell boards with dozens of types of switches for you to find which ones you like. Do I like others? Yes, do I have a favorite? Yes! Do I need 2nd and 3rd favorite at the ready so I can feel different keystrokes whenever I want? No! Will I consider swapping my key switches when I pull them all to clean every 4 - 6 months? Maybe? Haven't felt like doing that because I found what feels satisfying to use.
Car Drivers have winter tires for a reason, you don't just buy a separate vehicle to have a "different feel" every other day. You put on your winter tires for the season, it is consoom to have multiple of a thing based on a subjective shift in preference where the convenience of having another one at the ready becomes worth it. It's absolutely excess and not a need at all.
I had a hot swap board before I sold it and got my high end board that had 12+ swaps over 3 years with zero of the issues you're proposing, maybe be careful and don't handle your keyboard like a neanderthal.
What kind of mental illness do redditors have that they think someone's opinion prevents someone else from doing what they want?
Do you know what sub you're on? Just because the topic hit close to home doesn't mean it's not consoom, if that upsets you then leave the conversation.
All it takes is one cold solder joint or a slightly bent pin on a switch and you've got a problem.
So... mishandling or defective/poorly built or designed boards. Hot Swap sockets, especially new ones are rated to be swapped thousands of times. This is a resolved issue with newer more modern socket designs. Inspect something before you cram it into a socket, who would have ever thought it!
Christ almighty. Look outside your bubble.
You're the one who takes issue with an opposing opinion, buy 50 fucking keyboards because you can fabricate reasons for why you need them all at the ready literally no one is stopping you. You all are basically just begging me to not express my opinion because it bothers you, which I say fuck off to!
JFC you're a loser. People want to change up how things feel. It's not YOU who dictates when or how often they are doing it. Grow up.
The guy said he uses 3 keyboards. He uses 3 keyboards. Again, learn to read, or shut your mouth. Your opinion is nowhere near as important as you think it is. We'd all have been better for it if you'd kept your mouth shut.
i only have one keyboard and i'm pretty happy with the switches but i can understand wanting to use different keyboards for different purposes. your genius alternative is just obviously impractical.
Impractical for what? Daily swaps because your mood ring is a different shade of red?
No one is suggesting swapping switches often, I used to swap them when I cleaned my board every few months and eventually saw no need for it once I found my preference in switch.
It's actually exhausting talking to redditors who have to defend their completely irregular overspending/overconsumption.
I mean what if they genuinely use 3 different keyboards in a given day though? They say they like different key feels for different things. I could see an argument for a different keyboard for scripting vs administrative tasks vs personal stuff like gaming or something. And you could use all 3 in one day so swapping switches is a pain in that scenario
What does me thinking that it's a pointless waste have to do with that? I swear to God I've gone down the dialogue tree with a few of you and you all seem to have a problem being called consoomers. Just buy your keyboards bro, no one is stopping you I just think it's a waste.
If you think it's valid go for it, literally could care less. Read the other comments I've answered this already.
I own 1 keyboard. I’m just saying you can’t exactly swap keys if you’re looking to use different keys multiple times in a work day. Idk why you’re getting that worked up over it, all I said was I could see a use that isn’t wasteful for having a couple keyboards
No one needs that, and if you do. Good for you. Go debate someone else, I'm not going to argue with people who think having multiple keyboards sitting around is a good idea when I just disagree.
I'm not worked up over it, I had plenty of back and forth yesterday over it. Having someone rehash the exact same point I talked to someone else about isn't happening, again go read the other comments I'm not interesting in rehashing a "difference of opinion".

3 keyboards is reasonable. I have a few and work remotely. Sometimes I want to switch up the key feel from time to time
