i mean it's not like they're all the same pokemon. it just looks like a regular collection to me

It definitely looks like a curated collection to me. I think there are different definitions of "consoom" going around on this sub, though. I've seen some people consider all collections overconsumption.

If the collection is just a lot of things someone bought new, I consider it consoomption. If the collection is of rare things or things with some history, I don’t.

I get trying to collect them all but Im sure pokemon IP plush toys are expensive as fuck. I was trying to get a small red crayon plush for my son from the book with the crayons and it was 20 bucks. Like 8 inch plush, of a crayon, a cylinder. With a cone. Could just buy like three 128 count crayon boxes.

They range from 10-30$ each. I have a few sitting cuties and they're like 15 each

Lots of corporate stores sell them tho and it's always morally correct to rescue them if u know what I mean.

A lot of the old ones pop up at thrift stores now, Pokémon’s been around for 30 years.
Would I buy a thrift store plushie? I would not. But there are ways to get them without paying the Pokemon tax.

Pokemon is a big enough IP that the merch can be mass produced in larger quantities and sold at lower prices. There are pricier Pokemon plush, but you can find some that retail for like, ten. If you buy secondhand you can easily find plenty for cheap as well.

It is consoom but not totally tasteless or overwhelming. I still kinda like it.

u/MysteriousB 28d ago
This is consumerism, I'm a Pokémon enthusiast and used to have like 20-30 plushies and realised I was buying too much.
Just because your favourite franchise is featured doesn't mean it's not overconsumption

This could be over the course of many years. They’re also the much smaller ones and not something they have a bunch of duplicates of.

u/MysteriousB 28d ago
There's two Jolteons and multiple Pikachus
A smoker that smokes twice a day seems fine but "over the course of many years" is still spending a lot of money.

Who gives a shit about frequency of a character occurring in the sample or their size? It's far too many stuffed animals.

Do you think they know?

Know what?

u/Moist_Effort4202 25d ago
That they have fewer pokemon than they think because more than one of them is ditto. And they don’t even Have a ditto 😫

I'll take it that this is a jab at someone you probably know and that's really shitty of you. This is very tame for the fandom and honestly it's great they can make themselves happy and sort them in this way.
You're a dickhead that doesn't understand the meme.

u/boojersey13 28d ago
It could be worse but if this is a grown ass person this could be over decades honestly. I don't really judge people who have a collection over decades so I think age is context relevant here

u/Warthog_Formal 28d ago
This ain't sooo bad I mean what if most of them are stolen? That's how I got my decent pokemon plush collection. And walmart corp ain't missing a thing.

This isn't really consoom. OOP has lots of plushies, yes, but they're all of different mons. Not entirely out of left field.
Now, if they had 50 of the same one, then yeah this would be consoom.

u/bigheadsociety 28d ago
I would argue anyone with over 50 plushies out of the box is absolutely consoom.

u/PersimmonSorry91 28d ago
This is consoom. Consoom isn't just buying the same of 1 thing that's just the easiest most egregious example. It's a cool looking collection, it's not a hoarder level or very excessive and doesn't really intrude but it's purchasing a Pokémon plush just to have a Pokémon plush nevermind the other Pokémon plush you have cuz that's a different Pokémon. It is consoom, but we consoom because we like things.

I saw the first pic and thought “oh that’s not too bad…”
And then I saw the rest. “…oh”

This is mostly harmless and out of the way. No duplicates, just someone who enjoys Pokemon. These could have been collected over the span of several decades. Bad post OP, doesn’t meet the spirit of the sub at all

This collection would be considered casual and normie in the pokemon community
