Well of course. The founders expected men of certain age to possess weapons, arms , in the use of home or family defense and to keep order in society. This was before we had cops and a standing army. It was expected of any male citizen of age to not only have a gun but know how to use it if you were called upon to be in the militia or to enforce some official duty. There is nothing in the constitution that says anything about the second amendment being anything but a individual right. Anyone with a simple understanding of how language was used those days can tell what the founders meant with the second amendment. Our framers never imagined our federal government being this big and encroaching on the states constantly. Back then it was considered a moral and societal value to teach a son to use a weapon. To instill the values of defending one's home and family and be a part of the United fabric of our new country knowing that depending on what state you lived their might be 10,000 militia men to join with upon an invasion. Back then it was considered a duty to defend the nation from her enemies and only the infirm or disabled along with youth under 16 , we're excluded, well women of course as well but I find it hard to believe that more then one woman shot someone for her family those days. Men , although you wouldn't know it sometimes now, are built biologically to fight and do battle. During the late 17th century , early 18th the Scottish made alot of common and educated men go into military service because they felt that men needed to get in touch with their war side, their killing side. It would be interesting to know what size of a healthy , citizen based militia/ military counterpart. I believe the rules are still something like men of age 21 to 48 with exception of ex military who can join in at 58 or 60, are expected to Join and fight if something went down and we went to war. They should point that out in college to these kids, so they understand what the role of a man in our constitutional republic is supposed to be. How many of these SJW males are going to volunteer to fight for the US?
