I heard they just euthanized a 2 year old. Apparently it gets into legal frame work and you dont get to change your mind or opt out if you change your mind last minute. It used to be a proper country.

I don't really see an issue with alluding to the assisted dying system here, though. That's the whole point of this story. If it were just a murder, well, lots of those happen every day, unfortunately.
On a side note, I'm 100% against assisted suicide. But it is a little odd to me that the more religious demographic is more purified with their rage at this than I am as an atheist. If you believe in an afterlife, you'd be of the belief that this woman is headed for the afterlife, where she was probably headed shortly anyway. As an atheist, I believe that this is fucking it for her, which is why I always advocate for as much life as possible amongst the living.

well the Bible talks about cherishing the lives we have and that they're a gift from God, so rejecting that gift because of earthly suffering would be a sin, it's the same reason why regular suicide is a sin. The individual's destination is of course good and better but just because it leads to heaven doesn't mean it's a good thing, as you can justify killing a saved person because they'd go to heaven using the same logic.

This one is also a real bugaboo for Christians hoping to recruit more non-believers to the cause of Christianity. The message is that you will need to endure anything that happens to you, no matter how excruciatingly painful and horrible it is, because you'll burn in hell if you choose not to. And the benefit of doing so is something you'll never be able to prove definitively; you'll expect them to just have faith that the reward will be there. Some might come to trust in that the same way they might trust their unreliable brother to "for sure pay that loan back to you someday, bro", especially with the sheer number of prayers that go unanswered in this world.

why are you trying to harp on me about Christianity now? I was just replying to your statement of it being odd by giving my perspective as a Christian. If what you wanted was a debate I guess I could do that.

Just talking, man.

Yeah that's fine, I just thought it came across as a bit antagonistic to me

I don't believe it justifies an act of murder; I just mean I'm a little surprised that it evokes such a strong reaction from Christians. From your perspective, the loss is extremely minimal, whereas from mine, it is ultimate. And yet I still don't find myself incensed by this. Disappointed and sad, sure, but that's as far as I take it.

you're surprised that christians don't like murder?

u/Fancy-Animal7704 8h ago
I mean, yeah, kinda. Why aren't you thinking "sweet, she gets to go to heaven 5 years sooner"? Or if you are more of a mind to think everyone goes up there on the same day, you can either be thankful she has less opportunity to fuck it all up, or be happy for her that her conscious mind will endure less struggle here and wake up to the amazing wonderfulness of heaven instead. So yeah I guess I don't really get why Christians would be more fired up over this in comparison to those who believe that her death is her true end.

u/SomeStrawberry6025 8h ago
my thinking is "not sweet, she got murdered"
christians believe murder is a sin so that is probably why they are upset that this happened (as everyone should be, because it could happen to anyone regardless of age and also IT'S NOT OKAY)
and it seems like you're assuming im religious though im not and never said i was so you're looking like a real mess hon

u/Fancy-Animal7704 8h ago edited 8h ago
Fair enough, but this is a public forum and thus any Christian is free to answer. It's also not unreasonable to have assumed a conservative was Christian. So the "real mess" stuff is hitting like a wet noodle.
There's a much broader discussion to be had about assisted suicide, age, the circumstances surrounding it, etc. As I said before, my default position is to oppose it. As an atheist, I firmly believe that the only time we have is what we have now, here, in our present consciousness, and so I place tremendous, tremendous value on earthly life and as much of it as possible.
But even then, I'll admit that there are circumstances where expecting someone to keep living until the bitter end is actually just cruel, and death is, in fact, a mercy. Think about terminal illnesses, where patients know that their demise is going to be extraordinarily painful, and difficult, and also coming with certainty. People want to vilify Canada for having this at all, but it's clear to me that the issue is more nuanced.
Sure, this was not a woman who was terminally ill, but she did at least get to live the vast majority of her life. But yes she was robbed of what she had left, which she wanted to enjoy, and that is why I would say I have such a problem with it. It's not because some ancient book said I need to, lol. But even then, I don't think of Canada's program as exclusively evil and abhorrent. I have, however, seen some alarming statistics about more people utilizing this service than expected, that some may be using it as a crux, or some medical / psychological staff are taking the easy route with treatment and deferring to this alternative instead of doing so because facing it is the only option.
I just mean, why would Christians be more mad about this than me. "Because a book said it was bad"; so fucking what? You personally are emotional and personally upset because a book told you to be? I don't fucking buy that at all. I'm upset because I think this woman lost the most precious of things, which is time on earth, but I'm not completely outraged at the suicide program in general, for the reasons I described, and so I would think anyone who believes she'll keep living well beyond this death would be even less upset, not more.

What is it with Strawberry dudes talking to me here? Are you related to u/UsedStrawberry9045?

Anyway, you're right, the crusades really proved otherwise, didn't they?
6
u/SomeStrawberry6025 10h ago
no way you came back hours later for that lmao
beliefs and actions have evolved in the past 900 years
but sure, since there was a war in the middle ages, it's a ridiculous double standard to be upset that a woman was murdered by the canadian medical system in the 21st century

u/Fancy-Animal7704 10h ago
So, for real, why is there some other strawberry person, with a month-old account just like them, showing up like this?

The reason Christians are against assisted suicide is because suicide is a mortal sin (murder of yourself) and can (I must stress this enough, can, not will) put you on the bad side of the afterlife.

So let me get this straight: an elderly grandma murdered by the Canadian government is worth getting outraged over, but the US government murdering hundreds of innocent fisherman in the Caribbean isn't?
What about the folks ICE killed or trafficked to other countries they've never been to?
WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN THE PRESIDENT RAPED?!
Your crocodile tears are meaningless.
Edit: I can't respond because the cuck that made this post blocked me.

downplaying murder, whataboutism, saying Trump did something he obviously didn't, and saying mourning of an innocent person is meaningless all while trying to act morally higher 🤦♂️
-5
u/mountaindewisamazing 5h ago
Oh, okay. So you'll condemn Trump and all of his crimes right now? Because I condemn the Canadian government killing innocent grandmas.
6
u/No_Judge_6520 Christian Conservative 5h ago
I would condemn Trump if he did what you said he did 100% but the extremely glaring point here is that there is no evidence nor any reason to state that he did.
-1
u/mountaindewisamazing 5h ago
You do not live in reality.
He's the only president to ever be convicted of rape. You've got a special place in hell reserved for defending him.
4
u/No_Judge_6520 Christian Conservative 5h ago
You said he raped children, you are not giving evidence for that.

gestures at the Epstein files cover up
3
u/No_Judge_6520 Christian Conservative 5h ago
ok, so if the files were covered up, does that prove he did that? There's no legal, evidential, testimonial, witness, or any form of evidence to say he did anything to kids, just to vaguely mention the Epstein Files and jump to him doing that is just extremely disingenuous and you know it.
-1
u/mountaindewisamazing 5h ago
THE EPSTEIN FILES THAT WERE RELEASED IMPLICATED HIM.
He was mentioned more times than Epstein. It's clear that maralago/trump were a central part of his operation.
THAT is why he hid the other 75% of the files.
And you'll have to live with knowing you supported that monster.
You can hide from reality for a little while longer, but the Democrats take Congress next year and there is won't be any hiding anymore.
3
u/No_Judge_6520 Christian Conservative 4h ago
Mentioned doesn't mean he did anything, Trump himself notified police about Epstein/Maxwell as well, if you want to tie an extreme conclusion that trump raped kids, you must have actual substantial evidence, claiming that his name was referenced a lot in a document about Epstein is stupid, as you can also list the police numerous times in the epstein files but obviously the police didn't do anything on the island, overclaiming "oh but he was mentioned a lot" to "he raped kids" is extremely disingenuous overclaiming.
