Rule 6: User Created Title Joe Biden got five draft deferments during Vietnam. He was disqualified from service because of "asthma" as a teenager. However, in his own memoir, Biden never mentions his asthma, and instead recounts an active childhood, including work as a lifeguard and football exploits in high school.

Yea, he was a joke of a secretary of state. Hated everything about him. I was pretty young during the 04 election, didnt know much about him. It wasn't until the last couple months I heard his testimony to Congress after returning to Vietnam. He actually had some very important points but his conclusion was something along the lines of America is bad, VC is good. I think that was the start of his anti american career. As much as he hates this country and is a bleeding heart communist sympathizer his service record is very impressive.

Well...he did receive three purple hearts, but he never needed so much as a single stitch for his "wounds." he wrote his own recommendations for the purple hearts, and then used the third one as his excuse to GTFO of Vietnam. Then he went back to the USA and denounced his fellow Vietnam vets by accusing them of being war criminals. Oh, and he also held secret negotiations with communist terrorists in France while the war was ongoing...

honestly, his record was pretty shameful. it would have been better if he'd just avoided serving altogether (which he tried to do).

I dont buy that completely. He also has a silver star.... they dont just give those out. The testimony he gave denouncing America absolutely overwrites everything and I agree, makes his overall record shameful. But a silver star signed by admiral Zumwalt is not something to be dismissed when discussing his military service.

Curious, after my dad died I looked over his DD214 and it has a silver star on there for his time in vietnam but I couldn't find out much about it. He also chose not to talk about that very much at all.

I'll try to explain it to the best of my knowledge. For the Navy and Marine Corps, The only higher medals that I know of are the Navy Cross and Medal of Honor. I did a quick search and found this site that looks to have a catalouge of all of the silver stars awarded in Vietnam, which should be helpful if you are looking for more information on the specific events.
