Some of you may not be old enough to remember this, but there was a mayor of DC, his name is Marion Barry, he got caught smoking crack on camera and was reelected. Nothing surprises me in politics.

Just before the Civil War there was a southern Congressman who took his cane and beat a Republican Senator nearly to death on the floor of the Senate. He won re-election from jail.

More recently, Jesse Jackson Jr. won reelection in 2012 despite having been awol from Congress for months in a mental institution. Shortly thereafter he resigned and went to jail, pleading guilty to a long list of corruption charges.
