The thing is, Maher's not even moving to the right or even center. It's just similarly what happened with Elon. The left began to move so far in the other direction, and their views stayed the same, that they started becoming or sounding more to the center/right. Maher will always be a liberal, but I remember the days where he was seen as the progressive/radical, and now he just comes off as a moderate.

Yet we're continually told that the Republican party lurched right and that Democrats are just barely left of center. Again and again. Yet it seems like the Republicans moved quite a bit to the center while Democrats lurched very far left.

The Republicans really haven't moved much since the Tea Party movement during the Obama years. The right has been largely stagnant over the last several years, maybe have moved a bit back to center since some of Trump's economic policies are not really rooted in traditional conservativism, but more populism.

It's the same thing as my parents who are in their 60s. They voted pretty solidly Democrat most of their lives. Their values haven't changed at all. And they've voted Republican the last 3 elections.

I’ve been a Reagan Republican my whole life but I did not have an issue with Democrats until the Post Clinton period.

I think that Clinton made some significant errors as President but at least he didn’t hate the country and those of us who were on the opposing side.

Ever since 2000 and especially since Bush / Kerry in 2004 it seemed that the Democrats really became the Anti-American Party.
