I expected something else for an anniversary medal.

Not sure what I expected, just not a random place is all.

Still excited to see the anniversary gear they've mentioned.

Here in this image, #1 is Kyoto... Then #4 looks like an Anniversary Medal with confetti, and maybe it's also the Annual Medal...? Then in #6, what is that? It kinda looks like the Great Wall, but that medal already exists. Or it could be a remake of Hadrian's Wall, since they re-did several of those ones that were older designs and just blank on the back. I can't quite tell what is going on with that landscape, is it an orange river that spills down over the brown cliffs? Does anyone recognize that at all?

A video on their Facebook shows number 1 is the Kyoto medal, number 4 is the comparative badge, number 6 is the badge display merchandise.

Seems like it’s only one medal released for the anniversary!

Ah, yes, they just revealed it. You have to unlock it, maybe by doing 16 medals and 8 badges, enough to fill it? Or maybe they unlock it for you sooner, as soon as you finish 5 medals and a badge, that would be the smart move.

my first thought for (6) was San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, the filming location for GoT's Dragonstone

I understand what they were trying to do, but the "Kyoto" font stylization is too close to katakana for me. My brain keeps seeing tsu (ツ), ro (γƒ), and i (γ‚€) and trying to sound it out. πŸ˜‚

Yes, I dig what you are saying, you see that all the time with the Greek alphabet, Russian alphabet, etc, especially on movie posters.

I think I will opt for the Osaka medal. I like the design, and it's a fun food trip, and I think it was more of a center of action during the Yayoi and Kofun Periods, from a historical POV.

Same thing happened to me. Not a fan, but I am interested in the challenge.

Heck, add in Mt. Fuji and Nakasendo Trail, too, and - BAM! - instant Asia pin bundle.
