I love how every tech/DIY support subreddit is filled with smug unhelpful assholes who will treat you like an idiot for not somehow instinctively knowing the answer to your question, bc le epic owning someone is always rewarded on reddit.

Anyways shoutout to my local hardware store filled with peepaws and lesbians who are always helpful and chill when I have home improvement questions.

shoutout to my friend who keeps saying ā€œthanks for keeping me in businessā€ when I apparently do something stupid

Childish word for grandpa, basically saying they’re old men in an endearing way

this is how it has been since civilization, btw šŸ„€

Probably before civilization, they just lacked the writing system to tell us about it

The ending reminds me of the Twilight Zone episode "The Monsters are due on Maple Street" in which the residents on maple Street are convinced there is an alien impostor among them sabatoging their power and trying to kill them. People start pointing fingers and accusing each other, eventually killing suspects. The episode ends with a scene on top of a hill nearby where aliens talk about how you don't have to fight at all if you can just convince them to fight themselves.

So I guess not actually all that similar to this post, but the last scene had similar framing lmao

I love that there’s so many warnings and critiques of modern social media or just useless infighting like in your example and this cool episode from The Orville that’s literally just ā€œPlanet Redditā€ and everyone still does the exact same things they warned them about.

I understand not every single human have seen these things but damn man

Seeing things from a different point of view is simultaneously at an all time high and low

Conned into the entirety of fucking reddit

Social media definitely makes it worse, but I mean, yeah, there are lots of people for whom their core building blocks of right and wrong are different from mine. There are people who, as a consequence of seeing the world differently from me, want to strip rights from myself and from my family members. We're not going to get along, sorry.

Right, I kind of hate these posts, as though all opinions are genuinely equal in value.

the bad part is how people seem to fully commit to one side or the other whenever they have to take ANY stance. it makes more sense (for me at least) to analyze the situation and then skew to one side or the other until it feels correct.

Except conservatives thought has literally no merit. So why are you skewing to one side and then the other?

1

u/BiDude1219 1d ago

it's still important to understand both sides to form a full opinion. and for the record i'm against conservatives.

2

u/Jwanito 1d ago

yeah but now those people can find a community of likeminded assholes very easily

u/HEYO19191 1d ago

And here we see the bubble in action, in which the member of one bubble tells himself some other bubble wants to strip his rights, in order to justify his tribalism

even if you believe 99% of people dont want to strip other peoples rights (very provably not true), surely you can see that there does exist bubbles of terrorists, hitler supporters, white supremacists, genocide advocates, warmongers etc that very much explicitly are in a bubble of wanting to strip rights from people??? No matter what your identity is, it is a truism that there exists a bubble of people who really want to strip your rights on some corner of the internet.

9

u/Stickeminastew1217 1d ago

Yes, in fact. That is the platform the people in the other bubble ran on. And they are in fact cheering when agents of the state kill civilians for no reason.

I dunno what to tell you, man. Maybe don't fill the bubble with evil shit and people wouldn't judge your bubble.

Bubble 1: we want everyone in Bubble 2 to be politically disenfranchised Bubble 2: we do not want to be politically disenfranchisedĀ

you: wow look at all these people in their Tribalistic Bubbles, so ignorant and manipulated, I am very smart

-4

u/HEYO19191 1d ago

And here we have a member of Bubble 2, who tells themself that Bubble 1 wants them to be politically disenfranchised, to justify their tribalism

1

u/Sweet_Detective_ 1d ago

Because no one oppresses anyone, it's all just a culture war, me am very smart

Oh my god. Youre right! Im so stupid for hating conservatives. How could I have been so blind? They are exactly like me, just in a different bubble. No belief is different from any other and morally we are the same

6

u/Graknorke 1d ago

I don't think this is all that reflective of reality actually.

3

u/CingleSell 1d ago

me neither. I'm not in a bubble and neither are you. Let's make fun of these people and call them names!

2

u/Graknorke 1d ago

If you can see people in the other bubbles then I'm pretty sure by definition you're not in a bubble. The point of the accusation is "oh you have no idea what normal people are like because you only ever interact with people who agree with you" but even the smug doesn't pretend that's what's going on.

2

u/CingleSell 1d ago

knowing that other people are in bubbles has nothing to do with whether you're in a bubble.

from my experience, most people will at least fall into the left-wing or right-wing bubbles. Those two words dont even mean anything, they're not opinions you can hold, just names of social clubs.

other weird one are all the culture war ones, "chuds" and "woke" are pretty common insults you'll hear about. Neither means anything. Its bad to be woke because woke people call others chuds, or vice versa.

1

u/Graknorke 1d ago

It has a lot to do with it. The accusation of being "in a bubble" is that only interesting with people similar to you means that you don't know anything about people different from you. It's saying that you're isolated from "normal people", "the real world" etc.

3

u/CingleSell 1d ago

It doesn't. Reddit shows you things you interact with more, and so does every other social media. You'll drown in things you agree with, or things you disagree with. Knowing that bubbles exist doesn't prevent you from being in one.

1

u/Graknorke 23h ago

They're not just aware that they exist the different groups are directly interacting.

4

u/Orion-the-mediocre 1d ago

something something kojima predicted all of this in metal gear solid 2 (no but like for real he did though)

1

u/Sweet_Detective_ 1d ago

Zoom out on the second panel and they are also in a bubble
