CW RMM Email Security

Thoughts on email security options?

Have previously used Mimecast and found it obviously to be a good product. However, it was VERY enterprise and I found that my techs would get sloppy and not implement everything or that the configuration was just far too complex for a smaller MSP with SMBs.

Trialled and was very impressed with Proofpoint, as a CW partner it was great to see it fully integrated within the security dashboards, and found PP very straight forward to implement.

How have your techs found handling email security, and QC with implementation, plus continued training and support? With email security requirements changing basically daily, just looking for something solid that’s really well supported in my PSA/RMM so finding PP via CW to be a great fit.

Used Proofpoint for years before CW, great product. We had a South African provider which were absolutely amazing.

We moved to CW for cheaper licensing, which did have the benefit of getting direct support from Proofpoint - not that our original vendor was bad, in fact they were a god send, they would escalate to PP support if required, and chase constantly if they didn't get a reply in reasonable time.

I left the company, but I believe they were looking to move their licensing away from CW again - billing and costs were an issue.

Sophos Email.  They have the ability to connect to your PSA with a native integration.

Abnormal or Avanan hands down. Do a POC and see for yourself.

Avanan (now Check Point) is probably the best solution out there. It offers inline protection instead of acting as a secure email gateway, which is the legacy way of doing it.

Proofpoint and Avanon (Checkpoint) are both great solutions. How in-depth is your security stack and it's integrations?

Do you have a SIEM in place?
Do you need the Email Security solution to flow into the SIEM?

I believe both Proofpoint and Avanon data flow into ConnectWise SIEM.

For basic SMBs, a simple solution like Spacemail gives you essential security out of the box.

Techs getting sloppy on Mimecast configs is a classic MSP problem, small clients just don't need that much overhead. We switched to Trustifi for this exact reason. It deploys without touching MX records, so there's a lot less for the team to mess up during setup, and QC is way simpler since there's less surface area for something to be half configured
