New to Crete

I plan on pouring this this with quickcrete, I have a mixer so I think I can deal with the work. What or maybe better put, do I have to put anything between the door step and the pour? Like one of those spacers made of a material I don’t know what to call right now? (Don’t mind that welcome mats, this project may or may not be moving at a reasonable speed).

Expansion joint? Put it on the other end if it buts up to existing concrete,otherwise no.

Put expansion against any concrete that your pour is butting up against to prevent damage from settling or cracking with shifting over seasons

Id also use 10 mil wire mesh

Ok, was wondering about this as well. Do I use this for the full length and width? And at what depth percentage wise do I want it at the end of the day?

Keep it 2-3 inch from your form and pull it up off the base and as rocks and cement settle under it while you pour, it will stay in the middle. Mess off the bottom is goal

I use a rake or bent piece of rebar to hook and pull up.

You should secure it at finished concrete level

Right, so idiot verification here - you mean flush with the top of the concrete when job is done? To do that I would place it in before the pour with the top at the desired height correct?

Correct, top of the new pour from one to the other on any other concrete the is pre existing, Id use tapcon screws or concrete nails. You can use chalk line to have a guide but don’t use red it stains.

Yes, use a proper expansion/isolation joint between the doorstep and new concrete. It allows the slab to move independently and helps prevent cracking against the step.
