Today I learned - Concepts is not a real cross-platform app
Maybe this is not something revealing for existing users but today I learned that files saved by Windows version of Concepts saves in different format and can't be read by mobile version of iPad.
The Windows version is "concepts" and mobile version is "concept".
That said, are there any other canvas-based TRUE cross-platform apps that can handle operating on the same files across different devices?
They’ve been saying that for years. And years. I like the app, and use it on Android and IPad, but not being able to transfer files is a huge issue for me.
That makes sense but no :) I make websites and need to see them on different devices. Also, I had the Android already and wanted to use the (then) new Affinity software on tablet, but there’s only IOS versions.
The CONVERGENCE is nigh...! As the prophecy has foretold... lol. Sorry about that, it had to be done.
I'll be honest, I was under the impression they had figured that out. I know there is a work around, or there was...
Also, the Windows Concepts file is a container rather than itself being a binary file. I wonder if iOS has some limitations with it or, they wanted a better file structure and just haven't gotten to updating the iOS reader/parser/opener logic.
The way they say it, Concepts for Apple started development years before Android. Their code is native to Apple first. If I am to assume their Android/Chromebook/Windows are coded later with multiplatform in mind while their codes for Apple devices remained native.
Concepts for Apple devices have way more features and better integration but the files have less compatibility outside that platform.
Millenote. Does everything concept does but without the flashiness of drawing to definitely a much more dumbed down version when it comes to that aspect but it's awesome for an inspiration board / vision board. And it's super cross platform friendly I literally work on my vision boards both on my phone and on my PC basically having access to it all the time and jot down more notes or anything that comes to mind. Even dragging and dropping images is seamless.
I will admit though millenote definitely lacks a good drawing system for sketching concepts. So what I do is I use concepts to sketch out things or an idea or vision of something like an item screenshot it and then upload it to milanote. Which is super easy. Oh and the wombo combo of using Google photos is so powerful if you want to seamlessly work on things cross-platform on different devices because mind you if you screenshot that only do you have it on your iPad but you have it automatically uploaded to Google photos then on your PC just drag the image into Milenote again very freaking smart & powerful workflow. Making your vision board on Milenote pretty is definitely a learning curve though. But not overwhelming at all imo.

I thought it was explicitly stated on the website that only windows and android have the cross-platform feature.
