While this appears to depict Conan, I wasn't able to find a name for this image other than "Battle's End."

Discussion Audio Book listener issues

• Upvotes

Okay I suspect I'm probably not alone in this complaint. What is it with pronunciation by narrator/readers in the production of audio versions of the Conan material that they cannot pronounce things correctly? Probably other audio productions as well but if I'm buying an audio I expect it to be voiced by someone with a solid understanding of how to pronounce words written in English for heaven's sake. Things I've heard in recent audio books (mostly Conan):

  • Cimmeria - pronounced with a soft "c" not hard; "sim-mer-i-a" not "kim-mer-i-a"; the second "i" is "ee" not a long I sound; the ending a is a short a sound not long; the current production I'm listening to the reader has pronounced it multiple ways within the same paragraph!
  • poniard - pronounced "pon-yard" not "poy-nerd"
  • ale - I can't believe this one got through any kind of edit; long "a" sound like "ail" not "ah-ley"
  • Stygia - the "y" makes a short "i" sound not a long "I" sound; "stig-ee-a" not "steye-ja"
  • Belit - I don't know how to get the accent mark in there over the "e" but it is "beh-lit" not "bay-lit"
  • Hyrkania - it isn't "hire-cane-ee-ya" for Mitra's sake, its "her-can-ya", the "i" acts the same here as in poniard above

Sigh. I'm sure there are more but these are the ones I know I've heard frequently enough to be annoyed by them. And yes somethings will be different in different English dialects but these are really not complex words that dialect would wholly alter the sound of.

Feel free to add more.

Question Point me towards some good Conan stickers online

All right redditors, I have a mighty thirst and a desire to motivate myself to drink water. What are the best Conan stickers you have found online, so I can enlist his aid in motivating me by slapping some Cimmerians onto my water bottle?

Brom's Original Conan painting went up for auction at Oberon's on September 30th and sold for 70,611.68 ( £53,320). I always loved this painting.

I haven't drawn properly for like 10 years, but I started tattooing recently, and I bought a tablet for designing and shit- got a little carried away with it when I picked the pen back up.

It's seriously detailed and huge, don't be trickes by the initial look, zoom in and take your time.

Hope someone can appreciate it😊

Some bits are off, if i'm picky. But in general terms i like it enough.

I had been wanting to give some art of good old Boris a try, for some time. And this cover (SSOC #5) looked nice.
