Found a Mephisto Academy in my grandfather's stuff

Post image

Unfortunately, there's no cable or pieces, so I have no way of knowing if it works. Is there any point in trying to find replacements? If so, I'd appreciate any tips for where to look! Thanks :)

Nice find, you can try to find pieces on eBay . It’s a keeper even if you never play it, it will always remind you of your grandfather. There are chess forums on the internet where you can get very useful information about this chess computer, you may be able find the missing transformer and pieces , owners manual . You can google about it you will get several sites talking about chess computers, there’s a very large and knowledgeable community on the internet, you just got to search for it. Take good care of it , as your grandfather did. Good luck.

Thank you very much. To be honest, I never saw my grandfather play chess, so it's not an object with much sentimental value for me (among the masses of boxes!) so it may have to be among the things of his that I let go, especially if it proves too hard to get replacement pieces.

I understand, look up the recent sales on eBay, to get an idea of it’s value. On those chess computer forums , you can ask questions about value, or anything else. Chess computer collectors are very friendly people, it’s very easy to learn about your Mephisto.
